Breaking Bad Season 3 question/interpretation.
So for a couple years I thought I should be watching this show but never started until this (4th) season. Love it. Luckily, first 3 seasons are on Netflix streaming now so I watch an episode at night and one while working out at the Y (yea for smart phones). Anyway, halfway through 3rd season when Hank gets shot. When Walt gets Jessie back to cooking--do you think he did that for Hank or for Jessie. We get the crazy uncle's lesson about family always being first and Gus' credo that you always do what you can for family even if you don't like it or they don't like you. I think he is doing it for Jessie but got the vibe from the show that this was about Hank (I'm an English teacher so probably overthinking it--I'll own that).

So your thoughts? I think he did it for Jessie.

1. I think Walt brough Jesse back in because he (Walt) couldn't
do it without him. And Walt usually does what he does for himself (and ostensibly his immediate family, so they will be taken care of in case of his demise. Personally, I think Walt is deluding himself in this regard. It's become all about personal gain and power now.)

Best show ever, imho.

2. I feel like it's way less about power and more about survival.
It's always been about survival and that's easy to confuse with ego. He sees his survival as the only way his family survives.

3. I would agree that most of what he does, he does for himself.
But he tells Jesse that his cook was just as good, which we know it wasn't. He had a purpose for that. I think he likes Jesse and sees him as family. Ultimately, I don't think what I'm pondering over is that vital to the show, but just something sticking in my mind. The correct answer is probably that he did it for both of them (Hank and Jesse).

If not the best show ever, easily top 5.

4. Walt is also OCD...carwashing, detailing, thinking...
He's a guy that doesn't switch gears easily...starts a process and keeps it going. Comfort by repetition.

5. Just watched "The Fly" episode--He did it for Jesse.
Perhaps I look for symbols too much, but the fly seems to be a symbol for him letting Jesse's girlfriend die. Jesse forgave him and the fly died. The "return" of the fly is Walt realizing that there are a good deal of other things "bugging" him.

Or I overthink things.
