Why is it taking so long for him to come back?

was after they'd read us the passage about his promise to come back before that generation had faded away, I commented "He's LATE!"

The nuns were not amused. I was nine. I managed to escape a year later.

Let it be done unto you as you BELIEVE. Not every Christian in the world "believes" this end-times, rapture story, maybe those that don't outnumber those that do. Add to that number the millions of believers in other religions, and I think this Second Coming just gets cancelled out.

Why come back here at all if he's prepared another place for us?

My great-great aunt, Bridget, was in another place prepared by Jesus. This little quote above is from a book I wrote about the experience of the Irish immigrants in the USA. One of the reasons that the Irish Catholics had difficulties being accepted was because of the very powerful role women played in traditional Irish families, and because of their putting the teachings of Jesus into practice. (Of course, these same two things helped the Irish Catholics survive the abuse of the larger society.
