Okay, I can understand that you need to report on the fact that the Catholics updated their list of sins. HOWEVER, did you notice how they say how you could go to hell for these sins if you don't go to confession? Uh, HELLO, there are billions of us throughout the world who are NOT Catholic and this does not apply to!
I just found that kind of silly. They speak as if it's some kind of fact. Uh oh, you're going to hell!!
I just love the media in our country. :puke:

1. Not to mention the generations of humanity that lived and died before Catholicism.

13. I think more often Catholics think other Catholics (the ones that aren't like them)
are going to Hell faster than anyone else.

4. and of course,
there are Protestant kooks who say all Catholics are going to hell. Put the two together, and pretty much everybody is going to hell. But its nice they at least think about us! O8)

11. We are all miserable sinners,
You don't have to name the sins or categorize them. To many Protestants the main question is if you are saved or not and not what particular sin you have committed.

6. I like how they mentioned that they are still concerned about sins such
as child abuse among the clergy - but that it had been "exaggerated by the media".

I guess this list of new sins is to try and start a new PR campaign after all the shit
that's been discovered over the last decade about pedophile priests and such. Time to
refocus on the new millennium, THOSE other sins were SO five minutes ago....:eyes:

15. Better music too.
I mean look at the greats - Wagner, Beethoven, Mozart, Verdi... Venal buggers to a man. Sinners and hellbound for sure. Who is heaven gonna get - Elgar?

Edited on Wed Mar-12-08 02:07 PM by Goblinmonger
Just take a look at T.S. Eliot. Eliot the atheist wrote "Prufrock" and "Wasteland." Eliot the Anglican wrote the horrid cat poems that became Cats.

Tell me Burroughs and Ginsberg are not going in to be in hell.

17. I don't share the taste, but I do the conclusion
After all Oscar Wilde is most definitively in hell, and an abomination to boot. Dickens the adulterer is too. Flann O'Brien? Boozehound and idle layabout extraordinaire. Rushdie? 'nuff said. Eco? Infidel atheist who is definitely getting St. Peter's boot. The last two are about as outré as I get in my comfortable traditionalism so I'll take your word for it on Ginsburg et al ;)

18. If there is a hell
Oscar Wilde is going to be a fucking HOOT. Dickens would probably bore me to tears in hell like he does with his novels.

For damn sure James Joyce will be there.

James Joyce DESERVES to be there. ;)

I mean come on - Ulysses? It's masturbation porn for Comp Lit pseudo intellectuals not a novel. And don't even get me started on Finnegan's Wake (which of course is all anybody DOES do to Finnegan's Wake - get started. All copies after the first edition have been issued blank after page 11 to save on ink since nobody gets any further).

But then again I think Moby Dick is 485 pages of technical whaling manual and occasional travelogue with a 10 page Boys' Own short story in there somewhere, so I may not be the most reliable guide to the cognoscenti consensus of "great books".

20. We have areas
of agreement and disagreement.

I love Ulysses. I have read it every summer for the past four years and am looking forward to reading it again once school is done (OK, I'm an English teacher so perhaps I have a penchant for Comp Lit masturbation porn :P ). I haven't even kidded myself to even start Finnegan's Wake.

I hate Moby Dick. Way too much yammering in that novel. I read it for a college class on Romanticism and hated it. My cousin is an English prof and we were talking a couple years ago and Moby Dick came up. She told me I had to read it again because I would appreciate it more now that I am older. She made me promise. I did read it again and hated it even more. Same reason I hate Dickens--just shut up already; I get it. The whale is white and that is a symbol for good but the whale is evil. It's ironic. You don't need to write 6 pages to get me to that point.

You and I clearly need to discuss literature over a drink; it would be a blast.

21. way I figure it.
is that if anybody thinks god told them they are going to heaven. god lied to them and is going to take great pleasure in their suffering in hell. nobody is going to heaven but all are going to hell.

22. CNN pandering to religious righ
As usual. These TV channels don't want to lose audience from the left or right, so they come up with pandering articles favorable to both every once in a while. What lack of ethics.
