1. What does your subject have to do with Rove arrest?

2. You'll have to bait the hook a bit better to get me to chase
your link. How about a bit of the story.

3. "...The four arrested are ...
... retired Methodist minister and Peace and Justice Advocate, Rev. Chet Guinn, 80, as well as three Des Moines Catholic Workers, Edward Bloomer, 61, Kirk Brown, 25, and Mona Shaw, 57 ... "

4. How does that jive with the subject line of this thread?
I know about the 4 who attempted a citizen's arrest of KKKarl. I just don't get the title of this thread and how that relates to the link.

6. Makes perfect sense to me, but perhaps I've been reading too many R/T posts

5. So, um...three happened to be Catholic. I'm...not sure what your point is.

7. If you read the link it's not three people who happened to be Catholic.
The Rove arrest is just one of the things the Des Moines group of Catholic Workers are doing.

It would be useful for this forum to learn more about the social programs of Catholicism instead of the usual trenchant posts.

8. It really is. Their actions were not sanctioned by the Catholic church.
Not to pull whatever the Catholic version of Godwin is, but claiming that this is reflective of Catholicism is as accurate as claiming that pedophile priests are reflective of Catholicism. I don't think anyone here believes that Catholicism and virtue are incompatible, any more than Catholics believe that Catholicism and vice are incompatible.

There are many great social programs sponsored by the Roman Catholic Church. Arresting Karl Rove is not one of them.

9. The Catholic Worker movement is, and has long been, sanctioned by the Catholic Church.
http://www.catholicworker.org/index.cfm

It is Catholicism at its core and far more reflective of its values than the Knights of Columbus. As to what you think people here think, well, all you have to do is read the posts.

Karl Rove isn't really the issue, just a symbol.

10. I venture to say that the Catholic Worker movement
would find quite a huge welcome here at DU.

There's a family up my way who have been working against Iraq war from the beginning - no further back. Against the treatment of Iraqis because of our sanctions. They traveled there, at great personal risk, to bring food, medicine, clothing.

They make sure that they earn just enough not to pay taxes - because they don't want their taxes funding defense spending. And believe me, in the Northeast, that doesn't leave you much at all to live on.

I could never make the sacrifices these people do - but I admire them tremendously.
