From Wikipedia: Criticism of Warren's "Purpose Driven Life."
Edited on Thu Dec-18-08 12:16 AM by Democrats_win
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Purpose_Driven_Life

"One complaint from a Lutheran perspective is that Warren fails to present the evangelical Christian gospel accurately--failing to accurately represent the nature of sin, repentance and hell, as well as the blood sacrifice of God's son Jesus as the means to be forgiven by God for sins and which allows man to have a relationship with God.<5> Some critics accuse him of absolving his readers of moral responsibility by making Satan into an all-pervasive godlike figure contrary to both orthodox theology and psychological soundness,<6> and some contend that when citing Scripture, Warren jumps from one Bible version to another, cherry-picking whichever paraphrase or translation supports whatever point he attempts to convey.<7> The practice of using translations selectively is defended by others.<8> Yet another common complaint pertains to Warren's statement that "Whenever God wanted to prepare someone for his purposes, he took forty days"<9>--a claim which critics affirm to be both overly broad and contradicted by Scripture.<10>"

1. Typical godbag charlatan.
How these descriptions make him differ in any substantive way from any other Jesus Snake Oil peddler I do not know.

3. Wasted a lot of words there.
The reviewer could have just used four words - "Not a real Christian."

That's what liberal Christians say about bags of feces like Warren and Pat Robertson.

Of course, that's what nutbag fundie Christians say about liberal Christians, too.

The one entity that could set them all straight has been silent for at least 2000 years. Bummer. Too bad religious opinions - no matter how offensive - enjoy a special privileged place in society.

4. It's too much about "me and god" rather than about human
relationships.

6. Warren repeatedly refers to the Gospel as something people "do"
when the Gospel is what Jesus did for all people (dying on the cross for their sins).

and Warren has made millions saying that over and over again.

worse, he's had an influence over Christian churches with that message being taught in books and sermons countless times.

his theology is not orthodox.

7. It's like debating the length of a unicorn's horn
The question of just how crazy this guy is will never be resolved. But every time I read that phrase "blood sacrifice" I know I'm dealing with one bat-shit crazy son of a bitch.

8. It scares me that they argue over
who has the craziest beliefs and who can come up with the least human interpretation of the bibble. It's like arguing over which ocean, Pacific or Atlantic, has water in it.
