Quake damages National Cathedral, Ecuador embassy

(Reuters) - The Washington National Cathedral, the highest building in the city, suffered damage in Tuesday's earthquake, with three pinnacles in the central tower breaking off, a spokesman said.

Richard Weinberg, director of communications at the Episcopal cathedral, said a fourth pinnacle was leaning and might also be damaged. The building's central tower, which is 30 stories high, also suffered minor structural damage.

Other damage reported from the earthquake occurred at the Ecuador Embassy, a recorded message by the DC Fire and EMS agency said.

1. There will probably be many more reports of damage.
A lot of it won't be immediately noticeable, and some will actually be hidden structural damage. We'll hear more reports, I'm sure. Buildings out there are simply not designed to handle lateral forces, especially older ones.

4. I'm not used to this so it was pretty freaky
The tremor wasn't so bad but the dust coming down from the ceiling while my desk shook was freaky enough to make me get the hell outside. :-)

I work in the Capitol Hill area in a very old buildings and I could see that thing caving in pretty quickly if we had a serious quake. But God and my lucky underware didn't let it happen.

6. Christian Left Responds to Virginia Quake
If you like to laugh, you might want to know what "Christian Progressives" are saying.

But you don't have to believe it. ;)

7. Good stuff.
'In a rare interview with Pat Robertson on the 700 Club, Peggy Campolo said, “The earthquake shows God’s unquenchable wrath against the slowness of the Obama administration to overturn DOMA.”

'Tony Campolo responded on the Daily Show with John Stewart. “Although I understand Peggy’s sentiment, I’m not sure I would go that far.” Stewart replied, “You’re never willing to go as far as your wife–she, uh, told me so.”'
