United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Influential in Passage of Let Women Die Act

Catholics today expressed anger about the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ role in promoting support for the so-called “Protect Life Act” (HR 358), a bill that will endanger women’s lives across the US with an extreme ban on abortion coverage while expanding permission for health professionals to refuse to provide reproductive healthcare services, even in life-threatening situations. The US bishops have been actively lobbying policymakers and pushing conservative Catholics to do the same in an effort to see the bill passed.

The Catholic bishops’ actions show an unhealthy obsession with sexual issues. They appear to be hell-bent on wasting real and political capital on dictating to all Americans what their sexual choices should be. In their campaign to impose their will on others, they are willing to stoop to new lows.

The arguments that the USCCB has made are not scientifically, medically or legally sound. The bishops, having failed to convince the majority of Catholics on issues related to reproductive health and sexuality, are attempting to use Congress to impose their personal beliefs on all Americans. The bishops should stop forcing their personal beliefs on others and allow women and their doctors to make healthcare decisions. It’s time for us to respect the consciences of all and support people’s right to make their own decisions about their lives and health.

Ok, Catholics, this one is for you. How do you continue to support an organization like this?

1. As a general rule I keep my thoughts
on religion to myself, but I have to say this. What would the group of bozos have to say to the question: Where would you be if Mary, mother of Jesus, had died before she was ever impregnated?

2. I'd LOVE to see their rationale for this type of thing. But I doubt
the defenders of the faith will even bother to try to defend this nonsense.

3. Women aren't considered "life" to the "pro-life" faction
They're just broodsows and servants. Their only purpose is to churn out baybees for Jesus and be a maid for their man. If they die who gives a shit? The man can pick up another helpmeet/walking womb and carry on.

4. I was raised Catholic and stopped going
When it was revealed the priests were having sex with children, I stopped going. We were just lucky that none of our kids were victims.

I could never belong to a religion that condones child sex abuse.

So, if they have such little regard for children, I suspect they have even lower regard for women. Both are mere objects to be used for the wants and needs of the priests and church.

Child sex abuse and the degradation of women frequently go hand and hand. That's why polygamy has such a problem with child sex abuse.

5. Puts the lie to their "culture of life" claims.
Unfortunately, American Catholics have been slow to catch onto the anticlericalism that has been more prominent in Catholicism elsewhere.
