Are you going to approve of slavery soon?
What did the killers in Rwanda want? Did they want to cause their chosen victims to suffer? Did they want to steal from their victims?

What if the people who wanted to kill could have sold their chosen victims as slaves? Might that have provided what the killers wanted?

"Give me liberty or give me death" is good rhetoric, but history doesn't seem to indicate that slaves always committed suicide when they could not escape.

When we evaluate the current state of civilization, should we or should we not take into account the fact that the community of nations is not in the habit of helping or welcoming people when they are being massacred?

Many people are on God's side. Few people are willing to speak for the devil. As the devil's advocate I ask this question:

If there were an international market for slaves, with money to be gotten by selling large numbers of people into slavery, then might there be fewer massacres in future?

1. No, I doubt it
Massacres are caused by intense hatred of other groups. In the past, slavery was used as a way to dispose of the enemy, especially on the African coast, because said enemy was taken away in ships never to be seen again. Now, of course, though the slaves might be out of immediate sight, they would still be around, much to the chagrin of those who hate them. Let us not forget that the Final Solution for Jew-hating Hitler was not slavery but mass murder.

Besides, right now there is an international market for slaves. It is not driven by hatred but by economic interests. We have seen evidence of this in the people from Asia who paid to "work in America" only to be shipped to some Pacific island possessions, where they were forced to work in sweatshops or become prostitutes, forced to have abortions if they became pregnant. I believe this is one little scheme promoted by Abramoff and other repukes. It is only one disheartening example.

3. Perhaps we need to study the psychology of those who commit massacres
"Now, of course, though the slaves might be out of immediate sight, they would still be around, much to the chagrin of those who hate them."

If two people try to torture someone and the victim immediately dies, then are you confident that the torturers would not be disappointed?

Do you think that the killers in Rwanda aimed for swift deaths of their victims or aimed to both kill and cause suffering?

If victimizers are typically dedicated to wiping their chosen victims out of existence, then why aren't victimizers fanatical advocates of space exploration? There might be some other planet somewhere with happy people on it who closely resemble the chosen victims of the victimizers. Surely it would be intolerable for the people on that planet to continue to exist.

4. Approval of slavery in the Bible.
Slave Quotes

Psalm 123:2
As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he shows us his mercy.

Ephesians 6:5
Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.

Ephesians 6:9
And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.

Colossians 3:22
Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.

Colossians 4:1
Masters, provide your slaves with what is right and fair, because you know that you also have a Master in heaven.

1 Timothy 6:1
All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God's name and our teaching may not be slandered.

Titus 2:9
Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them,

1 Peter 2:18
Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh.
