Giants resign Freddy Sanchez to 2 year contract
Terms of the deal were not announced, but Sanchez's salary package was believed to have exceeded the two-year, $10 million deal Pittsburgh offered him shortly before trading him to San Francisco. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that Sanchez will be paid $6 million per year.

In a statement, Sabean said, "We are pleased to have Freddy in a Giants uniform for at least the next two years as we continue to improve our club. We saw a glimpse of him this past season and will look forward to his All-Star caliber play at the top of our lineup and in the middle of our infield. He provides a steady veteran presence and professional approach."

This is good news. Sanchez was prone to injury after he came over from the Pirates, but when he was healthy he added a lot to the lineup.

1. Yes! Great news!
$6 million a year blows me away though.

2. I look at it this way
If Rowand is getting 12 per and Renteria 9, Sanchez is a steal at 6...and it's better than the $8 million option the Giants would have had to pick up for next year. Now if he can only stay healthy.

3. I guess he is a steal
I loved having him in the line-up -- it was energized with him at 2nd and Uribe at SS.

He reports the knee feels great.

6. he was traded for the playoff chase
and was injured in critical moments of that race, so we sign him for another 2 years? He did have good games but was it really worth handing over a top pitching prospect? I don't think so. I could be wrong and hope I'm wrong but this looks like another typical Sabean signing of an old inhury prone player past his prime.
