Johnny Damon to the Tigers
Johnny Damon has a one-year, $8 million contract with the Detroit Tigers. The deal for the free agent who was not re-signed by the New York Yankees was reported by Yahoo.com's Tim Brown, then Tyler Kepner of the New York Times wrote that Damon confirmed the deal in a text message. Here are more details from John Lowe of the Detroit Free Press:

1. good luck Johnny
I enjoyed your time with the Yankees.

How silly is Detroit. They traded Granderson to the Yankees to cut 5 million in payroll this year and now they pay Damon 8.

6. I'm quite pleased, actually
He's a good fit for the Tigers, and we needed a left-handed bat big time. I think he'll put up decent numbers (and maybe now he can grow his hair back out!)

I know not everyone's thrilled about it, but I have high hopes for this signing.

13. 34-3!
If you lose your last game, it doesn't matter how far you get. Ask Payless.
