Giants go retro..

The Giants' alternate jerseys are back.

Managing general partner Bill Neukom confirmed Wednesday that the team will wear orange tops for every Friday night home game. The front of the jerseys will feature the Giants' familiar block lettering. In the late 1970s and early '80s, the Giants wore orange alternate uniforms bearing the club's script logo.

The orange tops have been available through the club's online store since mid-January. The Giants last wore alternate jerseys in 2002, when they donned black tops for some road games. They hadn't worn alternate jerseys at home since 2001, when they broke out black tops every Friday night.

Neukom also said that the Giants will wear alternate, orange-billed caps for Sunday home games, duplicating a look which the team sported from 1977-82.

The fresh splashes of orange are consistent with the Giants' black socks, which now include three bold horizontal lines near the top. It's actually less of an innovation and more of a "retro" look. The Giants last sported striped socks in 1948, when they played in New York.

Neukom said that displaying the stripes is optional for players.

Just swell..now the Giants are going to be looking like pumpkins every Friday home game. I hate this "retro" look. Doesn't Neukom have anything better to do?

You might need to wear sunglasses to the game with that brightness there...
I hate it when they mess with the uniforms...

3. Isn't that awful?
I hate it when they screw around with the uniforms too. In fact I don't see what's wrong with just having two classic styles..one for the road and one for the home games..

4. I like some retro uniforms...
The Astros' uniforms from the 1970s and 1980s are straight pimptacular, and I love the old Phillies logo...but these are just hideous.

12. C'mon now...
you have yet to give an opinion on all the interesting stuff coming out of the McCourt divorce....like the Dodgers plans to raise ticket prices while cutting payroll...

18. Well if you want a comment OK
I think ticket prices are outrageously high in a lot of cities, particularly in the NBA and NFL (have you seen Lakers prices?). It really cuts out the chance for working people to bring their families to games. Now I don't think NFL games offer a very good family atmosphere but baseball does and I hate to see tickets becoming unaffordable to ordinary people.

I don't live in L.A. (I've only gone to 2 or 3 games at Dodger Stadium my whole life!) so this doesn't affect me personally. I still think Oakland A's games are affordable so I'm glad of that. It's unfortunate but it seems to be a fact of life in pro sports. If you expect me to suddenly abandon my team because of ticket prices, well, that's not going to happen.

I think it's strange that you are impugning the moral and ethical character of McCourt considering that the football team you worship is run by a mobster but whatev.

22. Thank you for your thoughts on ticket prices..
but I was much more interested in your take on this:

The Dodgers anticipate their revenue to rise from from $295 million in 2008 to $529 million in 2018;

Anticipate their average ticket price to rise from $29.40 in 2007 to $53.50 in 2018; and

Anticipate their payroll to rise from $123 million in 2008 to . . . $125 million in 2018.

Projecting anything out 8-10 years is something of a fool's game, but even if those exact numbers don't come to pass, a Frank McCourt-owned Dodgers team at least intends to nearly double ticket prices, nearly double revenue and keep payroll flat as a pancake over the next decade. For comparison, the Dodgers' 1998 payroll was a shade over $61 million. If they had stuck to a similar plan starting then, today the Dodgers would have roughly the same payroll as the Oakland Athletics.

The Dodgers future under McCourt is looking to be one of a significantly smaller payroll...

I can't resist, your future looks grim...and I just love it!!!

25. I don't care
I don't see how that translates to a grim future. But I guess if you need something to take your mind off your third place team, go for it.

I guess I would have to see them on players in the field to get a better idea of how I feel about them. Just from the pic alone they don't look too bad to me. I guess what I'm trying to say these don't even come close to some of the worst I seen. These alternates were ugly imo.

Fair is fair. my team.
