Manute Bol dies at 47
From Associated Press
Dated Saturday, Jun 19

Former NBA player Bol dies at 47

An associate of former NBA player Manute Bol says Bol has died at a Virginia hospital, where he was being treated for severe kidney trouble and a painful skin condition.

Sudan Sunrise executive director Tom Prichard says in an e-mail that the 7-foot-6 Bol died Saturday morning at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.

The 47-year-old Bol played 10 seasons in the NBA and later founded Sudan Sunrise, a humanitarian group based in Lenexa, Kan., that promotes reconciliation in Sudan. Bol played professionally with Washington, Golden State, Philadelphia and Miami.

Bol was hospitalized in mid-May during a stopover in Washington after returning to the United States from Sudan. Prichard says Sudan "and the world have lost a hero."

1. The only notable alumnus of the University of Bridgeport
which, shortly after his departure, came under control of the Moonies.

4. I lived in Bridgeport for a couple of years, and UB was the only bright spot in that
community.

Such a sad loss.

6. Well, perhaps not the *only* bright spot
there's always the waterfront feminist vegetarian restaurant in the Black Rock section, Connecticut's only zoo, the Little Italy strip along Madison Ave., the Barnum Museum (and Festival), etc. -- but yeah, it does pretty much add up to less than the sum of its parts. :(

8. Ahhh. The Black Rock Section. Now that Bordeaux Joe is out of jail
I'll have to ask him about that area.

The Zoo??

The mob controlled "little italy" along Madison Ave and the Barnum museum??? :wtf:

Why your concern??

10. Well, I'm an ex-Bridgeporter myself, you see
thus, I've heard enough Park City-bashing to last me a lifetime. In my day (early '80s), an area band even had a song called "I Don't Want to Live in Bridgeport"!

11. When did you live in Bridgeport?
I lived there in the early 2000's, and have lived in various areas of Fairfield county for 15 years.

13. Bridgeport: '80-'83, Fairfield County: '75-85 and again in '91.
Along I-95 (tollbooth-free since 1985!) between Norwalk and New Haven, the only town that does not have a "KamaAina Slept Here" sign is Milford.

In Bridgeport we lived at Clinton Ave. and Maplewood (West End). It was there that I watched the Eagles defeat the Cowpies 20-7 in the 1980 NFC championship game. :P

9. He was a great humanitarian
I came here to post a thread on this news. Good to see others are remembering him, too. Here's a full article detailing some of the humanitarian work he did in Sudan.

My buddies and I really got a kick out of watching him run up and down the court and nailing 3's. He will be missed.
