Granato, James first women elected to Hockey Hall
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/06/22/AR2010062203515.html

TORONTO -- The Hockey Hall of Fame is no longer just for male inductees.

Cammi Granato and Angela James changed that on Tuesday when they became the first women elected to be enshrined in Toronto. Along with former NHL All-Star Dino Ciccarelli, Granato and James will go in as part of the players category during an induction ceremony in November.

Longtime Red Wings executive Jimmy Devellano and the late Daryl (Doc) Seaman - a founding owner of the Calgary Flames - were elected as builders.

While women had always been eligible for induction, the Hall made it easier for them to be voted in when it established a women's subcategory this year.

Up to four male players are eligible for induction annually, but only Ciccarelli was voted in Tuesday. Eric Lindros and Joe Nieuwendyk were potential contenders among NHL players in their first year of eligibility that didn't receive enough support.

..snip

Hmmm. I guess Nancy Kerrigan and Tanya Harding will get inducted next!!

1. Cammi Granato would kick your ass.
I'm a little surprised that Joey Alphabet didn't make it. Super sniper, Rookie of the Year, King Clancy winner, Two Cups and the 98-99 Conn Smythe. His numbers and awards say Hall of Fame to me. Lindros probably never makes it, you don"t award HoF status by what could have been.

Congrats to Dino, Cammi and Angela.

2. Outstanding and well deserved.

Woman's hockey is great, and these two are big reasons why.

And hats off to Ciccarelli, a hard nosed honest player. Would have loved to see him lace the skates up for the Bruins. Nieuwendyk should end up in the Hall as well.

And fuck Lindros, the fucking poser. Best thing I ever saw in hockey was Scott Stevens cleaning Lindros' clock with a totally clean check by the blueline. Lindros the poser done in by true and honest hockey. Serves the fucker right.

As you can tell, I'm not a Lindros fan. :)

On edit...some Stevens clips. The bastard was fearsome, and one of the best I've ever seen....

4. Stevens was a monster.
He and Kasparaitis were the two best hitters over the past 25 years.

5. Kasper was borderline, sometimes on purpose and sometimes not.

A lot of his hits were low, but he was a shrimpy guy so it was hard to expect otherwise. I loved to hate him.

I'll take Stevens and Neely as the two best I've seen. :)

6. He was an old style hip checker.
I loved seeing him beat the hell out of Lemieux and Jagr in the 93 playoffs. He had them constantly looking over their shoulders, cost them the series.

7. Oh no doubt, he was totally effective. Like a mini Brad Park, with attitude.
I agree 100% about him being the difference in that series. A perfect example of intimidation in hockey (a huge factor in any series). It was awesome to see such a little guy have that kind effect on a series. It was clear that the Pens were thinking of him instead of winning. You can understand the big guys having that kind of effect, but to see a player like Kasper do it was great. One of the great NHL playoff series!
