OSU haters feel free to feel bad about the world
Coach Tressel will have by next week:

7 Big Ten Titles in 10 years (outright or ties)
8 BCS bowls in 10 years
3 National Championship Games in 10 years
9 out of 10 wins over Michigan

4th and 10 w/ the season on the line and T.P. runs for
a 1st down .... my that must sting for those who drink
the hater aid.

1. 8 BCS bowls? Don't you mean 7 BCS bowls?
Edited on Sat Nov-20-10 08:14 PM by hughee99
Jan '01 and Jan '02, they played the Outback Bowl (not a BCS bowl) both years against South Carolina (both losses). In December '04, they beat Oklahoma St in the Alamo bowl (also not a BCS bowl).

They've also played in 2 Nat. Championship games, 4 Fiesta bowls and a Rose bowl. By my count, that's 7 BCS bowls in 10 years.

Ohio State may very well be the best non-SEC team to miss out on a BCS bowl this year.

6. When they beat Miami, it was the Fiesta bowl,
The "national championship game", as a separate game, didn't come along until the 2006 season. And I'm not sure they're going to get a BCS bowl this year.

7. That was a National Championship game for all intents and purposes
What happened was they alternated the site among the various sites. 1998(Fiesta), 1999(Sugar), 2001(Orange), 2002(Rose), and 2003(Fiesta). What happened was that they kept all the bowls separate from the National Championship and made it its own even when in the case you are referring to, was combined.

What I'm saying, from 1998 to today. The #1 and #2 in BCS rankings played in a national championship, the Fiesta Bowl was the site chosen for that year.

9. Yes, it was,
but since I was listing the BCS bowls they played in, I listed the national championship games (those that weren't part of the old bowl system) separately from the Fiesta and Rose bowls.

8. It might as well have been a BCS game
But if you want to be picky then you can say OSU in the
10 years under Tressel will have been in 7 BCS games and
1 National Championship Game that they won.
Along w/ 7 big ten titles outright titles/co-champions
...... the last 6 in row.

And you can count on them being in a BCS bowl game this year if they
beat Michigan .... which they should do in walk over. Michigan is
very slow on defense this year.

Ohio State is ranked # 9 in the BCS rankings right now and they
will move up to @ least #8 w/ Nebraska's loss .... they are ranked # 8
in the AP Poll and # 7 in the USA Today/Coaches Poll right now too.

I kinda expect them to move up a little more too because I think
Alabama will beat Auburn.

So the national Championship Game will be Oregon v Boise State/ TCU
the Rose Bowl will be Wisconsin v TCU/Boise State because Wisconsin should
not have any problems w/ Northwestern @ Home.

But if Boise State gets beat by Nevada ......

10. Are you sure they get a bowl game?
The BCS takes 10 teams, two for the NC game, and 8 more for the other 4 bowls. 6 spots are already guaranteed to conference winners, so you have 4 spots left...

Assuming TCS and Boise St. win out, they'll get two of the spots, leaving two for teams that didn't win their conference. Wisconsin goes to the rose bowl leaving OSU fighting for one of those two bids. They are currently ranked behind both Stanford and LSU who won't win their conference either. The Rose Bowl already has it's big 10 team, and I'm not sure any of the other bowls will be fighting for OSU. All this could change based on next weeks games, but right now, I don't think OSU gets a BCS bowl this year.

11. It is pretty much a lock
The Bowls love Ohio State because their fans "travel well" aka they buy lots of tickets ...
and no matter what part of the country OSU will have a good size alumni and fan base there.

Ohio State should be a conference co-champion too.

Ohio State should end the season @ least # 7 in the BCS rankings too.

12. Given the remaining games...
Edited on Sun Nov-21-10 11:50 PM by hughee99
Ohio State plays Michigan, Wisconsin plays Northwestern (same record as Michigan), LSU plays Arkansas (#12) and their only loss was to Auburn, Stanford plays Oregon St. (5-5) and their only loss is to Oregon. If they all win, who does OSU jump over? In any case, none of this may even matter.

I'd be pretty surprised if the SEC (LSU or maybe even Alabama, though probably LSU) didn't get one of those two spots (given that the Sugar Bowl will be available), and if the Rose bowl wants to have a Pac-10/Big-ten match up, they'll have to take Stanford.

Unfortunately, someone's going to get saddled with Pitt and Virginia Tech when more deserving teams should be there. Neither the Big East or ACC deserves automatic bids.

13. The big east team is locked into the Fiesta Bowl .... they get the last pick
:puke:

The winner of the ACC should play the winner of the Big East
It should be @ some Tex Ass high school field about Dec. 5th

Remember their is no selection committee for the bowl games each
bowl operation is their own independent operation ..... nothing
fair about it. OSU will wind up @ least #7 in the BCS rankings,
w/ an 11 -1 record, big ten co champions, and their history of buying
lots of tickets.

14. Yes, because of the bowls being their own independent operations,
I think OSU may get shut out.

If OSU doesn't jump Wisconsin, Wisconsin goes to the Rose bowl. The Sugar bowl is going to take an additional SEC team if they get a chance, the Rose Bowl is going to want an additional Pac-10 team to play. Unless the plan is to shut out Boise or TCU, there's no at large spots left for OSU. The Sugar bowl isn't going to have any issues selling tickets if LSU or Alabama plays and if the Rose bowl has any say in it, they're going to get a Pac-10/Big-10 matchup. If the Rose bowl takes Stanford, they won't have ticket sales issues either.

Who does OSU jump over if they all win, Wisconsin or Stanford (they won't jump over LSU beating a ranked team)? And if another OSU (Oklahoma State) wins out (over Oklahoma and Nebraska or Mizzou) won't they jump Ohio State as well. I could see them finishing as low as 10th even if they win out (Ok St. and Alabama with a win over Auburn could both pass them, Auburn won't fall that far).

I know you think it's a lock, but without some help (A Wisconsin or Oregon loss should get them in), I just don't see it happening.

Who are your bowl teams?
Right now, I think it's going to be:
Conference winners
Oregon, Auburn, , ACC winner (VA Tech probably), Pitt (unfortunately), Big 12 winner (OK St. probably), Wisconsin.

At large:
Stanford, and LSU (or possibly Alabama), TCU, Boise St.

In any case, someone deserving is going to get shut out an be rightfully pissed.
