1. With the injury to Sanchez, are the Giants done?
Second baseman Freddy Sanchez, the most consistent hitter on the team, separated his right shoulder last night in a game against the Reds. Sanchez was diving for a ground ball hit by Brandon Phillips in the fifth inning. He'll be out, based on initial reports, "for a long time."

That's one too many big injuries for a team that's been so desperate to score runs -- I don't care how good the pitching is. Maybe they work out a trade for Ryan Vogelsong (no one would take Zito except, perhaps, the Yankees), but I doubt it.

:(

2. I've never seen so many injuries to crucial players
Maybe the baseball gods are taking their pound of flesh to make up for Brooks Conrad and all of last year. It's been really disappointing, and makes one wonder who is going to be next.

If Sanchez has ligament damage, then he's probably out for the year too. Too bad, because not only has Freddy been their most consistent hitter and is the anchor to that infield, but he was headed for the All Star game..

Without these guys, specifically Posey and Sanchez, on paper the Giants are really no better than a .500 team...There is no excuse for the Rockies not to win the NL West now..

Btw, no way are the Giants going to trade Vogelsong and his 1.81 ERA. I mean who would take his place in the rotation...Zito?

3. You want injuries? Look no further than Oakland.

Sure, trading Vogelsong would hurt, but he's the only player on the Giants' roster with any trade value and who I think they could afford to part with. Yeah, Zito would take his place. I also think that Zito could be of possible interest to the Yankees provided they have something the Giants want.

On edit (Hall signing). Forget it.

Hall's batting .224... he'll fit right in.
