starting tonight for the New York Yankees . . . none other than . . .
Al Leiter! . . .

yup, the former Marlin/Met was signed yesterday for $400,000 and a player to be named later . . . though he's having a terrible year, he's a step up from what the Yanks otherwise have available, and will be their eleventh starter this year . . .

the Yankees are desperate for starters . . . they now have four on the DL, only one of whom (Wang) is worth anything, imo . . . they wanted to beef up their pitching in the off-season, and totally screwed it up . . . someone should be fired . . .

could their next signing be Hideki Nomo, who was designated for assignment yesterday? . . . stay tuned . . .

ugly . . . really, really ugly . . .

1. bwah-ha-ha-ha
as much as it kills me to see former Mets popping up across town and often having, much to my chagrin, significantly better seasons than they had while in Flushing - in this case I think the Yanks picked up a dog who's lost his bark and his bite.....

10. I was at the game tonight
Leiter looked great!!!!

Didnt look at all like a pitcher who has lost it.

I'm a met fan as well. Watching him tonight had me wishing we still had him. Then again, the Mets were overdue in terms of feilding younger players.

Especially pitching.

I just hope they get rid of Glavine.

2. I couldn't believe they used Tim Redding
TIM REDDING.

Hey, I hear the Tampa Devil Rays have made Hideo Nomo available. I'm guessing he'll be starting for the Yankees by next weekend.

3. Hideo . . . yeah, that's the ticket . . .
guess I was thinking of Hideki Matsui . . . whatever his name is, he's definitely not the solution to the Yankees' pitching woes . . . nor is Al Leiter . . .

6. Even though that made me laugh, you gotta concede that
Jeff Suppan is pretty good.

12. Suppan is o.k.
but just. A Little over .500 pitcher so far. Hope he improves and does a repeat of last year.

13. Perhaps my view of him is tainted...
because he was the sole bright and shining light of competence on the Royals pitching staff back in the day.
