3. That's a real stunner.
Czech's were absolutely dominant against the US. And Ghana dominated them.

This wasn't a fluke--Ghana looked like the better team.

6. Ghana did well against Italy
but today they looked 500x more refined and effective. They showed a lot of potential against Italy, but it was always going to be a hard match for them especially against catenaccio defense, but they put on a full display today. Brilliant play by the Ghanaians.

5. Ghana deserved it

they attacked often and effectively. They kept breaking through the Czechs' defense, something that is no mean feat. I couldn't count the amount of times they threaded a ball into open space, or how many times they simply outdid the defenders. In fact, if Ghana's strikers didn't keep shooting the ball at Cech, didn't pass the ball to an offside player during a sitter and actually shot that PK with some semblance of accuracy, the score would've been 4-0 at least. However, they did very well. The goalie was also excellent, those two saves he made at the end were nothing short of brilliant; real amazing play from Kingston. Appiah was great, Essien did well and the last goal was glorious.

Isn't this also the first African win of the tournament? If so, congrats to Ghana for doing it.

They were a bit lucky as Baros and Koller are out, but they played heroically and the result was a just one.

 I'd also like to add that the ref SUCKED. He made some of the most atrocious calls I've ever seen. That was nothing close to a foul in the box (which led to the PK), much less a RED CARD (are you serious?)! And as usual, he gave out yellow cards like they were candy. FIFA needs to talk to him, or even better, send him home before he actually ruins a game. However, Ghana still deserved to win and then some.

(rant alert: Oh yeah, and why was that Ghanaian player waving around that Israeli flag for? insert passionate criticism of Israel and its policies here)

9. Superb game!
Ghana were magnificent! I must admit that they did remind me a bit of a more youthful Bolton Wanderers (big strong, physical, direct and tackling anything that moves). The Czech's were simply not allowed to settle.

10. What many commentators seem to forget is
that Ghana is a giant at the FIFA youth level. They have won the FIFA under-17 year world tournament 2 times in the last fifteen years defeating Brazil, Argentina, Italy (4-0, if I remember) and other major countries, and being silver medalist at least once.

Most of the players on this current senior squad playing at the World Cup were on the team that lost to Argentina in the final game of the world under-21 competition a few years ago. Most of them currently play in top leagues in Europe for some of the glamorous clubs like Juventus, Roma, Chelsea, Udinese, Bayern Munich etc.

People seem to think they are some amateur players just coming straight from Africa. USA may have a game on its hands Thursday if Arenas and Co. are not careful!!

11. .
Yeah, you just have to look at some of the players the african teams have:
Essien, Kuffour, Appiah for Ghana or Drogba, Toure, Eboue for Ivory Coast.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if Ghana makes it to the second round. It will be a very tough match for the US.

12. I do not think the commentators on ESPN/ABC
know World soccer at all. They keep spouting and repeating ridiculous analysis. Because Czechkoslovia was able beat the USA 3-0, suddenly Czechkoslovakia is made up to be the greatest team ever, when in reality that country has never done zip on the world stage.
