Heat Championship Tainted?
I am not a Heat or a Mavericks fans; however, there seems to be a discussion about whether or not the Heat's championship is legitamate or not. Some people claim that the refs helped the Heat by calling too many non fouls for Wade. Others say that the Mavs lost the series because Dirk did not show up for the series. So what do others think? Is the Heat championship for real? I tend to be divided on the issue. I think the case against Dirk not showing up is probably the main reason the Mavs lost. However, I think some Mavs fans have a point when they say the call at the end of game six was a bad call. I guess if I was asked to take one side or the other I would say the championship lost had more to do with Dirk not showing up than with the refs giving Wade too many calls. So what do others think?

1. Not many excuses when you lose four in a row
Including the clincher on your home court, basically trailing wire to wire.

I'm a Heat fan but I concede I think the Mavs should have won that series, and would win a majority of series between those two teams at that point in time. I base that primarily on the massive edge to the home team in the ludicrous 2-3-2 format.

The questionable call was the end of game 5. That was obviously going to be the pivotal game. Once Dallas blew the big lead in game three they figured to be shellshocked and get massacred in game four. I posted that on this site and many others. Then the "take a stand" game is number five, on Miami's home court. Wade and the Heat made the vital plays down the stretch and Dirk did not. I know he missed at least one critical free throw.

That championship will never be atop the tainted lists. This is basically the first time I've seen it questioned. A superstar like Dwyane Wade receives the benefit of a doubt, in calls on the court and memories down the road. It's not like there was a bizarre controversial call that came long after the fact, like the Miami/Ohio State championship game in the Fiesta Bowl.

Here's what happens, the natural reaction: if Dallas wins the title this year the theme will be they should have won two straight. The 2006 series against Miami will attain greater scrutiny. If Dallas doesn't win, then they're chokers who blew another title and next year fewer people will take them seriously.

4. Dirk is a cry baby
They had that series won in Game 3. But they choked in the 4th Quarter and let Wade come back and beat them.

Dallas is likely to come back to win in 2007, but Miami legitimately won in '06.

Way I see it, Mavs won 3 games, Heat won 4. Mavs thought they had it in the bag and once you slack off it is really hard to get back going strong again. Im sure they learned a lesson there.

3. Mavs won two games
That's part of the problem of describing that series as fraudulent. It didn't even go seven games. Dallas swept the first two at home, then the Heat won the last four.

5. Scoreboard
A couple of years back the Miami Hurricanes lost a National Championship because of one of the worst calls in NCAA history. With that said---Miami should have never been in the position to lose that game because of one bad call.

Same goes with the Mavs. They had Miami....BUT they let Miami come back to the point that the bad call had an effect.

I use to admire Mark Cuban and still do somewhat---but his crying after the game and to this day has put him right up there as one of the biggest crybabies in all of sports.

Ultimately it's "Scoreboard" ... Miami has the Ring and the Mavs don't.

That's sports

6. Reminds me of the Raiders after that Pats game in the playoffs
The fact remains that whether it was a correct call or not the Raiders were tied with almost a whole quarter to go and they just folded. They had no one to blame but themselves.

The same applies to this. And I hate the Heat (both the team and the weather).
