Including the clincher on your home court, basically trailing wire to wire.
I'm a Heat fan but I concede I think the Mavs should have won that series, and would win a majority of series between those two teams at that point in time. I base that primarily on the massive edge to the home team in the ludicrous 2-3-2 format.
The questionable call was the end of game 5. That was obviously going to be the pivotal game. Once Dallas blew the big lead in game three they figured to be shellshocked and get massacred in game four. I posted that on this site and many others. Then the "take a stand" game is number five, on Miami's home court. Wade and the Heat made the vital plays down the stretch and Dirk did not. I know he missed at least one critical free throw.
That championship will never be atop the tainted lists. This is basically the first time I've seen it questioned. A superstar like Dwyane Wade receives the benefit of a doubt, in calls on the court and memories down the road. It's not like there was a bizarre controversial call that came long after the fact, like the Miami/Ohio State championship game in the Fiesta Bowl.
Here's what happens, the natural reaction: if Dallas wins the title this year the theme will be they should have won two straight. The 2006 series against Miami will attain greater scrutiny. If Dallas doesn't win, then they're chokers who blew another title and next year fewer people will take them seriously.
