Do you think this couple "like" late term abortions......
what is all this uninformed crap about "liking" late term abortions, and why do people like this sometimes have to fly to get one in this country? why would you deny them the chance to end this pregnancy, even if her life wasn't in emminent danger?

"What we saw on the monitor looked more like a cinematic alien than a 20-week-old fetus. Instead of arms, there were truncated flippers, and it looked like those drawings I've seen demonstrating how close man and dolphin are on the evolutionary scale. The legs were gnocchi-shaped buds that barely protruded from the pelvis. The chest cavity was deformed as well, although we wouldn't know that until later.

You've seen this before: a young couple staring in wonder at an ultrasound monitor, getting a first, magical glimpse of their unborn child. It wasn't like that for us. ''What I'm seeing is a fairly significant abnormality,'' Dr. Eddleman said, shaking his head sympathetically. Tears ran from my wife Liz's closed eyes as she wiped the blue goop off her swelled belly.

We walked on rubber legs down the hall to Dr. Eddleman's office, where he emerged from behind his veil of jargon just long enough to impart that we hadn't done anything wrong. Osteogenesis imperfecta type II was his diagnosis, a freak mutation over which we had no control. I could see in Liz's expression that it would take some time for her to believe him.

The fetus might make it to term or die in the womb. Either way, it wouldn't survive for long after birth. This disease, the doctor said, is ''fatal in infants.'' You know you've arrived in a different universe when the word ''fatal'' comes as a relief. Because until that moment, I had been trying to extrapolate what the flesh-and-blood version of this baby would look like in the maple crib we'd ordered, asking myself if we had it in us to raise such a severely compromised baby. Liz would later tell me that she was also sadly relieved. ''Fatal'' was our absolution -- we would not have to learn darker truths about ourselves."

1. Yes, you're right, and thank you.
Fools who think that late term abortions are done for convenience seem to think that women LIKE these procedures. The truth couldn't be further from that warped opinion. Women hate going to the OBGYN for ordinary checkups, let alone medical procedures. ANYONE who has a late term abortion does so for valid reasons, usually just like the one described in the article.

But Repukes, of course, probably think this is divine retribution for 'something' the couple did - in other words, it's 'God's will' and they should just live with it. Sadists.

3. You're right about people blaming it on God's will....
People blame the tsunami, tornados, hurricanes, terrorist attacks on God's will. What kind of god are they worshiping. If they worship a god who brings human suffering to this earth, I think they may worshiping the wrong entity.

(I say that for the sake of argument. I do not believe in Satan.)

8. and when they take the meds derived from stem cell research
to save their greedy lives, they'll say it was god's doing.
And not brilliant rational research that they tried to stop from happening.

13. Yep, that's the way fundies work.
No matter WHAT happens, it's 'God's will'. Either way, God wins. That way they don't have to think - about the consequences of policy, about the consequences of their own actions, about how they could make the world a better place.

Some really dumb uneducated posting going on around here lately.
Fuck, if everything I "didn't like" was banned...... omigod this country would be Bettyville.
Even I wouldn't want to live there.

10. Today is a good day to bring up such topics.
Women do not enjoy or prefer abortions.
Doctors do not enjoy or prefer abortions.
If men could get pregnant, abortions would be dispensed as freely as viagra.

9. To hear the ignorant howlers in the religious right
you'd think that women have late term abortions on a whim, for reasons like wanting that bathing suit to fit well on a vacation.

The truth is that second trimester abortions are generally done on wanted pregnancies for deformities as above; third trimester abortions are extremely rare and every attempt is made to preserve the live of the fetus ex utero and are generally done to save the mother's life.

Any time one of these clowns calls these reasons "convenience" it's all I can do to avoid smacking him so hard he'd be picking his teeth out of his rectum for a month.

11. Best bumper sticker:
"Feminism is the radical idea that women are people too"

Ha! I can see you smacking said neanderthal. When Dean was my governor, he listed some stats on how rare 3rd trimester abortions are but I forget the numbers. He also listed the same conditions for the procedure as you.
Makes you think education and tolerance is actually painful for these toads, they could find all this out for themselves if they wanted to.

6. Those right wing fundies who
pushed through that bill really must hate women and certainly don't trust them. I've never, ever heard of any woman who wanted to get rid of a baby that late. This has got to be such a heartwrenching decision and on top of it to inflict a law like that is beyond any comprhension. And yet so many dems too hid and blathered on this too instead of standing up and putting them in their place. I don't know how they even think of such laws.

7. That's one of the reason's men should stay out of it, unless they are
the actual father or doctor...They have no clue what goes through a woman's mind, and shouldn't project what they think as a basis to control us...They use the most extreme one-half of one percent as testimony to all. Just because one woman may use abortion as a form of birth control, there are 1000 more who choose it for legitimate reasons as in your post...

12. People who would be against these folks in the article have never
been placed in the same situation. You notice that those types of judgmental people talk way to much then when something happens in their own lives, they want to sneak off and use the options that everyone else has.
