We have been told that schools are very liberal in that state and our chances of finding friendly respectful teachers would be better there.

We are very much attracted to the free school there but just because that is the name it is actually not financially free and that may take us

some time to organize. Any information on Portland schools would be appreciated? Or of course, good ways to research that myself. I am not so

much worried about test scores or academics as I am in schools that use 21st century discipline models that have foregone the usual punitive

punishment models in favor of resolving conflicts positively and in a way where the children actually learn to be more respectful and compassionate

human beings.

2. Portland schools are suffering.
Funding is a problem. The city has a disproportionate number of young professionals with no children, and funding for schools is not what it should be because the voting public does not support the schools. Some schools were closed altogether in the latest plan, others have merged.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean about discipline. Bullying? I'm sure it exists in Portland schools, too.
