I asked my husband to marry me.
Even though it's not legal in Wisconsin, Paul and I had a private commitment ceremony 21 years ago. Now with states allowing gay marriage, and some allowing it for people outside their states, I've asked Paul to legally become my husband.

Our anniversary date is April 1st. So on 04/01/10 I'm hoping that Mr. Paul Parkinson and Mr. Will Bowden will have the pleasure of enjoying each others company for the remainder of our lives as legally wed people.

And, hopefully, the ignorance that bans gay marriage in Wisconsin, will become a thing of the past in my lifetime so that Paul and I can be legal spouses in our own home.

2. For what it's worth, I recognize your marriage.
anniversary date is April 1st

April fools day? Unusual choice.

And, hopefully, the ignorance that bans gay marriage in Wisconsin, will become a thing of the past in my lifetime so that Paul and I can be legal spouses in our own home.

I hope so too.

3. April fool...
When Paul and I got together, people were telling us that it would never last. Within 6 months we'd be looking for someone else.

We chose April 1st so that every year that passed would only prove them to be bigger fools.

8. eeek! 21 years?!? CLEARLY you are a threat to hetero marriages everywhere...
It must be *ALL YOUR FAULT* that over three fourths of them end in divorce..... :sarcasm:

Congrats! On 21 years and the impending nuptials! :toast:

9. Thank you kindly...
I'll have you know that about 1/2 of our straight friends who married after we did have divorced. And I feel just awful about it. I know that somehow it was our fault. I hope that they'll be able to forgive us eventually.

10. I hope that one day people will consider marriage as just the joining of two people
without regard to the race, religion, or sex of the two involved.

Just two people who love each other enough to want to spend the rest of their lives caring for one another.

11. Oh, your anniversary is the same as ours!
Though you've been together two years longer than we have! I sincerely hope you will be able to have that legal ceremony--I'm sad that you couldn't legally tie the knot back then!

13. It really is not asking alot. It is strange that our country
allows religion to block choices from marriage to stem cell research. If these religious people don't like it, they don't have to do it. I always thought Wisconsin was progressive, but after three terms of Tommy Thompson, and longer of a majority Rep. legislature poor Wisconsin is battling it out not to come across as behaving like hicks with sticks.

16. The courts ruled that it was basically the same question...
That's why the Supreme Court is being asked to look at it again.

18. I wish that for you and
as a fellow Wisconsinite - I also wish for the current ignorance on gay marriage to become a thing of the past, too.

I've never been so saddened by politics in my state as I was the day that ban was passed.

I wish you and Paul many happy years no matter how you spend it together.
