My school blocks access to this site:

Which means that... probably... access is denied to one million NYC public school students.

WTF?

"Gay or Lesbian or Bisexual Interest" is the rubric under which it is banned.

Yet most other glbt sites are not blocked.

And you thought the Ft. Worth teacher had it rough. ( He does, actually.)

Anyway.... October is LGBT History Month. Everybody go out and learn something new.

Go on , NOW !

Bypass School Internet Filters

These days, schools are so strapped for cash, they cant afford the Internet bandwidth for students to do useful and fun thing on school computers. Some schools expect students to actually do work during IT lessons, and some IT departments just don't like YouTube. However, the days are over when they can lock down the system enough to stop determined students from using the Internet as they please.

8. Thanks. I'll give it a try on Monday. But....
... I have a feeling that site's blocked also. The ACLU site I reference below is also blocked.

Welcome to education "reform".

4. Good Q. I asked the Tech teacher and she told me...
Edited on Fri Sep-30-11 01:23 PM by Smarmie Doofus
....that it would be like moving heaven and earth to change the policy and not to bother trying. (No, neither she nor I can figure out why *this* particular site is blocked and not, for instance, GLSEN.)

Anyway... someone on facebook told me that ACLU had an ongoing project re. viewpoint discrimination relative to GLBT issues in public schools , specifically dealing w. blocked sites.

Holy Double Standards, Batman!

Anyway... I filed a "report" on the ACLU website. Supposedly they will get back to me. Didn't want to name my school ( reprisals: yes- I fear them) but they wouldn't take the info w/o it.

6. Here's a tasty tidbit: The first GLBT president was really awful.
However, the second is remembered as one of the best the country has ever had.

9. Both had longterm relationships with men.
One never married. The other married, but the relationship was apparently as full of love as the Bachmanns'. Sure, some affection, but that's different.
