Gay Man Viciously Attacked in Texas

A 26-year-old gay man says he was the victim of a brutal hate crime early Sunday in Reno, Texas — a small town just east of Paris and about 100 miles northeast of Dallas.

Burke Burnett said he was at a private party at about 1 a.m. when four men suddenly attacked him, stabbing him at least twice with a broken beer bottle before throwing him onto a fire. His attackers yelled things like “pussy-ass faggot,” “gay bitch” and “cock-sucking punk,” Burnett said.

Burnett said it took 30 stitches to close stab wounds to his back and forearm, as well as a cut above his left eye. He also sustained second-degree burns and severe bruises.

“They knew I was gay,” Burnett said Monday. “I’m convinced they were trying to kill me.”

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if they tried to brush the attack aside. After all, the people of Reno are just good, Christian folk who don't do nobody no harm. You raise your children there, you go to Church, and enjoy a bit of fishin'. If anything negative happens, they're either just having a bit of fun that got out of hand--and, really, who hasn't done that?--or else it's outsiders coming in and causing some trouble. But no worries, the police are hard-working and good at their job and they take care of those troublemakers.

A party of locals where a hate crime happened? That would just bruise their image too much. And if the victims cause too much of a fuss over it, well. Guess who is the outsider now? How dare they attack the community!

If anyone scoffs at the idea that ignoring or disbelieving a community has a problem doesn't have consequences, just look at the pictures of Burnett.

you go about 75 miles to the south on 271,and you run into Gun Barrel City/Kaufmann and Henderson Counties...which are gay mecca.
Texas is far from gay-friendly.
