Irish High Court Hears Marriage Equality Case
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/10/100306ireland.htm

Ireland's highest court was told on Tuesday that the government cannot use "protecting morality" as an excuse for denying same-sex couples the right to marry.

If the justices agree it could open the door to make Ireland the sixth country in the world to legalize gay marriage.

The case before the High Court involves a lesbian couple married in Canada who are suing to have their union recognized by the government.

Ann Louise Gilligan and Katherine Zappone (pictured), who had been together for 20 years, were married in British Columbia in September 2003 within months of the legalization of same-sex marriage there. At the time both women were working in Canada.
