URGENT: Prop 8 is winning per the No on 8 Internals - they need money and fast

Survey USA has a new poll out today putting the race for Proposition 8, California's amendment to ban same-sex marriage, at 47-42. Under two weeks ago, SUSA had the No campaign winning by 5 points. CBS, which funded the poll, shows that the Yes campaign's wins were mostly among young voters.

Internal polling released by the No campaign today (performed by Lake Research Partners) also shows that the gays are behind in a poll of likely voters, 47-43. The poll was conducted last week....

But the No campaign says that they're worried about complacency in the LGBT community. "We're going to lose this election if we do not raise the money we need to get on the airwaves," said Equality California executive director Geoff Kors. "The community is very complacent and thinks we're just going to win and that's it."

We need to get money to them fast and be sure to let everyone you know to get off their butts and work hard to defeat this measure.

2. I know - unfortunately the No on 8 campaign has not been that great at
getting people to donate and I feel they are not that organized. Its up to us to make sure it does not pass.

3. I am very embarrassed to say that I have not yet contributed.
I admit that I'm one of those in our community that has been complacent. I just assumed that since this measure is in California, a fairly reliable blue state, that it would not pass. That was a silly and erroneous assumption on my part.

I just donated $500 to "No on 8" in response to this OP.

Thank you for making this post FreeState, and for giving me the kick in the ass I needed to give my dollars to help defeat this measure. I may not be able to vote against the measure, but I (and many people I love) will still be quite negatively affected if the measure passes, despite the fact that I live outside of California.

4. So where are the gay list celebrities?
You know, the out and wealthy men and women who could have easily donated several hundreds of thousands, but so far have done squat? Do they really want bigotry to win?

12. T. R. Knight just donated $50,000.

That's something. And I think Brad Pitt also made a big donation, but I don't fully remember.

But I agree, there could be much bigger name celebrities donating. There are MANY celebrities out there that are either gay or gay-friendly, people that are very wealthy, that can be contributing to this cause.

Where are Ellen, Elton, Melissa, Margaret Cho, Kathy Griffin, Oprah, etc.? Oprah has enough money to bury the supporters of this measure by herself!

Calif. Gay Marriage Ban Gaining Ground

A surprise appearance by San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom in an anti-gay marriage ad is being credited for increased support for the measure.

A new CBS poll by its San Francisco affiliate shows Proposition 8 – the ballot initiative that would outlaw gay marriage in the state once again – winning. Eleven days ago, the same poll indicated the opposite.

According to the poll, voters now favor the gay marriage ban by a five-point margin, 42-to-47 percent.

The sudden change of heart is being credited to a Yes-on-8 television advertisement featuring an unfortunate sound bite from Newsom, which began airing last Monday.

13. Donated
I am so angry at the lying commercials. They are beyond disgusting. They are telling parents California schools will teach all about gay marriage in the class and even say teaching marriage is part of the curriculum according to state law. Unfortunately, people are too stupid to ask questions.
