An economist at the University of Massachusetts is disputing a study that showed Connecticut could lose nearly $1 million a year if the state allows civil unions of same-sex couples.

The report, prepared by legislature's nonpartisan Office of Fiscal Analysis, said that civil unions would result in a decrease in inheritance tax revenue. (story)

Municipalities would also pay a price, up to $1.5 million a year for health insurance, pensions and other benefits for town and city workers who enter into civil unions, the report said.

I rather doubt 1 million in tax revenues is going to bankrupt the state.

That is 0.0094% of their state taxes revenues.
