The North Carolina Association of Educators endorsed
a law that extends protection to state and local government employees from discrimination based on sexual orientation. This would give teachers protection as well since we are in essence state employees. It evidently has some chance of passage.

I actually submitted the new business item to get them to back this and was amazed it passed by voice vote. No drama, no nothing. I was all prepared for a knock down, drag out fight and it didn't materialize. Instead my other item was the problem.

I am both proud and happy. If this law passes I will have done some small part in having it happen. One person can make a difference.

1. That is great news!
Good for you. I can attest to that one person making a difference. Go ahead, scream it loud, you done good! Also be proud of the fact that it went without a fight, that is something these days.

2. I am still in shock
I drove home from the convention and was listening to the radio and it finally all hit me. It was a combo of tears and laughter. The irony is that I thought I had a slam dunk item and a fight on my hands and was right, I just had them mixed up.

3. I remember
when we defeated the Phelps ballot initiative how we were totally in shock. We really thought it would pass even though we worked for three weeks non stop and about killed ourselves. Tears, oh yes, this is an emotional and VERY important issue. I am so proud of you, I mean really, look what you have done!    :toast: When I have my nightly beer tonight I will toast you my friend. Today you are my hero.

and thanks for battling Phelps. That really takes guts. I saw his clan once in Cleveland Ohio, where I used to live, when the Methodist church was in town for its convention. I came close to losing it with one of those fools. It is unreal how evil they are.

5. No problem
they do not scare those of us who have to see them 3 or 4 times a day. Evil, yes but the other groups are the worst. At least everyone looks at Phelps like a madman. Enjoy your evening dsc, damn good job.

10. Yep
Though the endorsement should help immensely in getting it passed in the General Assembly. It is by no means a done deal but this should help.
