1. I kept a mantis as a pet when I was a kid
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 03:11 AM by undergroundpanther
I fed it bits of hamburger it ate off my finger as he perched on my hand.Drank water drops off my finger too. He lived on the living room curtains. He'd sun himself during the day, climb down and perch on me in the evening .He came in September,Lived in the house until December.
Soon after xmas he died.On the curtain perch. He was so cool.Never pinched me.Was a really interesting and surprisingly intelligent guy for an insect too.
Here is a mantis that visited on my birthday a few years back,Took his pic,I fed him some cake icing! & Let him go.

Mantis seem to like me for some reason. They leap on me,I find them in my hair.I pick them up they sit on my hand and look at me in that inquisitive way,So I consider them a spirit totem along with Felines, and lighting bugs and starlings among others that I have uncanny connections to..

3. Very cool story :D They do seem pretty damn smart from that show
I seeded my parent's yard with them when I was a kid to control the pests. They did a great job and I really enjoyed seeing them hanging out around the yard.
