Hi everyone...
I just found a rather revolting "game" at the Milwaukee's Best beer website. Perhaps some choice words to the management letting them know how inappropriate the advertising is? I've sent my comments along already.

1. It's been mentioned a few time in other threads.
I didn't get the idea that many found it offensive.

3. I can't be sure if others will find it offensive...
But I perceive this as a woman's issue, hence my decision to post it in this group.

4. Seriously, I'm not sure I see the issue...
of course, I am on a bunch of lists with female romance fans and authors who spent most of last month drooling over romance novel male cover models. Quite vocally, I might add. Well, quite unabashedly, at least.

Not to mention one small fact. The only time a woman wearing something like that halter top objects to being "ogled" is if she doesn't like the ogler.

IMO.

5. If you see nothing offensive...
Then you have little need to write the company.

And I'm not even going to respond to your IMO comment.

6. Sorry, I have plenty of reason
not to buy the whole "we're pure as the driven snow" argument with regards to this sort of thing.

Women can be as bad as men, and the honest ones admit it. Just read a months worth of e-mail with female readers and authors talking about this guy's pecs, or this guy's legs ("I would LOVE to see him in a kilt"--or, even better--"I wonder what he is, or isn't, wearing under that kilt") and one is likely to become even more jaded about it all than one was already.

And if you're telling me women wear low-cut, revealing tops for their own benefit, or the benefit of other women, I'm not buying it. Women dress that way to be noticed. Why else would they, seriously? It's just offensive when the WRONG person/people notice. If it's the RIGHT person, it's all just great.

This whole issue smacks of hypocrisy to me. And the older I get, the more I've seen that leads me to this conclusion.

And the game in question is just stupid, in my opinion... barely worth a moment's attention, much less a written letter.

7. Some women oogle men and some men oogle women..
Some women like it. Some men like it. This is hardly evidence of the fact that all women and all men find it appropriate. I am of the mind that sexual innuendo of the male and female variety need not be used to peddle products. But, best to jump to the assumptions that I am hypocritical before inquiring into why I might be displeased with the advertising.

If the game does not offend you, good for you. You have no need to contact the company, and do not have to be bothered with the task of writing a letter. All is well in your world.

However, it offends me. It offends my husband, who has also written a letter. It may offend other women and men, and they can decide for themselves whether or not they feel this way. If they don't , they need not write a letter to the company either.

You've made your point and stated your opinion quite clearly - there's really no need for us to pursue this further. We shall simply agree to disagree.

9. Again, if it does not offend you..

Do not write the advertiser. It is as simple as that.

I have explained my thoughts, and have also made my point about why I did so. And as I mentioned to the other poster, we will agree to disagree.

Your decision to label my reaction "daft" is your opinion, and it is a rude one at that. I do not wish to be privvy to continual rude comments foolishly masquerading as "debate."

Good day to you.

10. no offence inended
sorry if I offended, that was not the intention.
"Daft" is not particularly insulting in my part of the world.
We use far stronger language to insult.

I was not "masquerading" - merely pointing out that I felt there were bigger issues about gender equality and abuse - than the one you took issue with.

Apologies

Women can be as bad as men, and the honest ones admit it.

From my experience, it's the patriarchal sexists (male and female) who like to push the "women are pure as the driven snow" meme. They are the ones who are enamored with the myth that men are beasts who have no control over their innate biological urges to spread their seed while women are compulsively monogamous relationship junkies who just want to cuddle and get resources for our babies (and are ultimately responsible for reigning in the aforementioned males who are incapable of controlling their own urges). Well, except for the many women who don't make that the priority. They are, of course, sluts. No biology excuse for you, missy.:eyes:

Do women often view men as sex objects? Absolutely. You see the evidence of that in the romance blog you described. But do you really think there is anything approaching equality in the portrayal of men as objects for female gratification as compared with the reverse? I do think the trend is growing toward more emphasis on male appearance as women gain economic power. Doesn't surprise me a bit and frankly, I welcome it. Women are starting to act more like men traditionally have and it's clearly driving certain factions crazy! Good

this beer company are exploiting women to sell that cheap sock water...get it?

I wouldn't mind so much if the playing field were more even....like they would have men in speedos selling cheap beer to women...I would feel better knowing that both genders were being exploited....get it?

11. welcome to the women's rights and issues forum, sjbech
You might find more productive discussion in the Feminsts Group where people who actually want to do something about women's issues are gathered. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=341

This WR&I's forum seems to be more for people who want to dismiss women's issues whereas the Feminists Group was formed with specific rules that disallow posters who just want to question your intelligence and tell you to get over it. I think you'd like it there. :)

Thanks for posting this link, please post it in FG and you will be greeted rather differently, I assure you. :hi:

You're right, it's "bottomless and endless" but if we keep trying, maybe someday it won't be. (Ever the optimist, I am. :))

I think if we weren't optimists, we wouldn't be here - we would be at home, feeling depressed and powerless.
