Got myself another Magnalite Wagner Wear pan
Edited on Wed Oct-26-05 11:04 PM by eleny
Items from this set are sort of my holy grail at the thrift shop. I found this one used online at an auction site, so I saved myself some money. I know aluminum isn't the thing to use. But I love these pans. I swear that they take cooking lessons at the factory. They cook so beautifully. We fried salmon filets in it tonight and hardly anything stuck.

It's 11" x 3" with rubber handle & finial and looks almost brand new. Now I've got 3 saucepan type pots with lids (from the thrift shop) and this fryer. If only they could go in the dishwasher. But they clean up so easily, it's hardly necessary.

2. That is fabulous!!!
I've had an almond hi-lo 33" sink for 20 years and love it. I really need to replace it. But the prices! You did amazingly well. Big congratulations to you my thrifty shopping pal!

3. That stuff's a collectible, too, isn't it?
I mean, beyond its utilitarian value as a good, heavy pot, isn't that desireable as a collectible, too? I've seen it at fleas and antique malls for what I thought was pretty big money.

4. Could be
They make it new these days, too. But I think it doesn't have the "Wagner Wear" name on the back - just Magnalite. Which is fine. But I like finding it at the thrifts. And I've convinced myself that the old ones already know how to cook. :D They remind me of how it is to cook with Silver Seal cookwear. Maybe they have a similar gauge.

I think we've all had some fun these past few days in the kitchen and at DU.

P.S. Thanks for the retro urls. If we had the room for a booth, I would be picking out vinyl colors by now! I'm still trying to figure something out for our narrow breakfast nook.

5. I was looking around the net and got sidetracked ......
Here are some cool Magnalite links:

http://magnalite.pans.com.nyud.net:8090/images/logos/magnalitelogo.jpg

A brief overview of the status of the products today and a short history of where they started: http://fantes.com/magnalite.htm

From the (apparantly) original manufacturer, a short history and the complete product line. It is interesting to note that on this site they talk about the blended metals (aluminum and magnesium) whereas the discount stores that sell what would seem to be the same product talk only about aluminum. This site also implies the stuff they have is still made in the same factory as it was when first introduced. http://www.wagnerware.com/PLineCat.asp?Filter=PL&PLine=1

There are a lot of other sites, but they all seem to be peddaling the imported stuff.

6. Thanks!
I didn't know that there was some controversy with Corning. Nice to learn about all that. I really like the Fantes site and have referred to it after you posted it during our knives craze!
