Fresh black eyed peas for New Years Day.
They have the fresh ones at HEB. I cook them with ham hocks in chicken broth. Mrs bearfan is from the South and it's a tradition here.

I managed to find a bag of frozen ones. I've got some smokehouse bacon (seriously good stuff) and of course onions that I'm planning to cook them with. IF I get ambitious I make some cooked rice and go for Hoppin' John. There'll be some wilted chard on the side.

If I don't like any of this stuff...well, there's always a well-stocked refrigerator standing by to make Plan B.
