A Chef's Bounty - Superb Cookbook
It should probably have a different name than "cookbook" because it is really page after page of brilliantly executed, mouth watering cuisine. My daughter has the book and I was going through it while I was babysitting a little while ago. Marionberry barbecue elk chops. Huckleberry and Hazelnut sourdough hotcakes. Honey bacon apricot cornbread. A ton of salmon and seafood recipes. Desserts that are just out of this world. Even dungeness crab macaroni and cheese.

This will give you a good idea of what the book is like.

1. I'm not into recipe books myself

(preferring technique books, but everyone cooks differently)

but anyone who can successfully combine chicken and waffles is okay in my book (no pun intended).

And the photography is wonderful. Yes, it's a tabletop book, but it seems to be full of really interesting stuff. Apparently heavier on the seafood, which isn't necessarily a bad thing - chicken and waffles excepted. I'd eat there. Any day now. Well, I'd have to travel 3000 miles first.

3. Oops. It was written by an Oregon chef
and local 'bounty' is the big thing here. That's why it's heavy on the seafood, berries, mushrooms, and the like. I meant to put that in the OP and forgot.

5. Didn't know that waffles were "bounty"...

but yes, I know what you're saying. The Pacific Northwest is blessed with a wonderful growing environment.

The times I have been out to either Sonoma Valley or the Puget Sound region, I've just had wonderful food. You can get that here (Northeast) but you have to work at it. I remember going to one restaurant in San Francisco, which I think was just called "Fish", but you go in and the chalkboard menu (varies by daily catch, I assume) must have listed a good 40 different varieties of fish. Maybe more. It was a huge selection, and it was all great.

The only thing that really screwed me up about the Pacific Northwest is my sense of proportion. Not in terms of food, but in terms of distance. I was in Gig Harbor (SEATAC region) and I remember hearing about a garlic festival (not Gilroy, but some other little thing) and on the map it was 1/2 inch away.

Well.

In New Hampshire, that's a 30 minute drive.

Apparently in Washington/Oregon (it was just over the border) a half a map inch is nearly a four hour drive.

And the festival sort of sucked too.

2. That is a lovely book.
My friend that I lost in February would have loved it and been looking for elk the minute she got it!

4. Looking for elk??

You never told us Sarah Palin was your friend!

Is it even legal to hunt elk? Up here, I think it's illegal to hunt moose (I don't know for sure, I'm not a hunter, but I've lived in this environment all my life). Deer season is a big deal, there's a very limited and tightly controlled bear season, but I don't know if you're allowed to hunt moose and even if you found one (much less an elk), how the hell you would drag it out of the woods is beyond me.

6. Gorgeous looking food. I don't like oysters but the photo made me want to try the dish!
You should review it for Amazon! There are only two reviews right now...
