Step-by-step, thrifty way to eat good-for-you oatmeal, especially if the you/the family eats lots of it.

2. I love oatmeal too, but I think I'm the ONLY one of the planet who likes it
with salt and pepper instead of sweet. Naturally, there are no pre-made packets for this, so I just buy a big tub and grind in my fresh pepper and Himalayan sea salt right into the steaming bowl. I also like my oatmeal a little under-cooked and lumpy instead of soupy. Weirdo, huh?

3. I love mine a little lumpy, too.
Bill pours milk or cream on his, but I love them both salty and sweet, so I throw in a good pat of salted butter and some brown sugar. :9

You got me on the pepper, tho. ;)

5. Looks like a lot of work, but a money saver
I just scoop out a third of a cup of quick cooking oatmeal, a sprinkle of salt and a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar, pour skim milk over it and nuke it until it is thick. If I nuke it on 50% for a few minutes, stir, then nuke it at 80% for a bit longer, it comes out just the way I like it, but it took experimentation to get it just right.

I'm tempted to add ground pecans to it - that would be good!
