Favorite School Lunches?
My kindergartener finds the school food "yucky" (It really is!) and wants to take her lunch. I've been doing the basics: carrots with dip; cheese & crackers; sandwiches; soups; etc. Could you please share any other ideas for school lunches?

Thanks!

1. PB&J
Celery with peanut butter
Apples & peanut butter

OK, so I like peanut butter!

Other ideas:
Dried fruit (so many different kinds, be sure to check out the new flavored dried cranberries)
Stew
Yogurt-covered pretzels, etc.
Protein/meal bars (Alton Brown's web page on Food Network has recipes from a show he did where he made protein bars that actually looked really good)
And even though they are just loaded with sodium, those Lunchables things are adored by kids. Well, thinking about that, they're probably adored BECAUSE they are loaded with sodium. But for a special lunch treat you could do a lot worse.

2. Mine likes lefse with something rolled up in it.
Ja, hey! And a half a bagel with cream cheese. She likes dips, even just a little sour cream with some dip mix in it.

But more than anything, she likes the notes in the bag, something not available with hot lunch.

3. We do a lot of hard boiled eggs.
Or as my son's French friend once called them, Horrible Eggs. I usually put in some bread and butter with the egg, to make it equivalent to a sandwich.

We also do yogurt. My kids wouldn't eat yogurt, but I pulled off this amazing scheme: one time I bought them Trix Brand yogurt. They couldn't believe it, mom's buying JUNK FOOD! They loved it. Next week, I bought the store brand kids' yogurt. Then, organic yogurt. They ate it. Whee!

School lunches are total crap at my guys' school.
