1. No.
Adaware is good, and you do not have to uninstall. Make sure you have the latest Spybot S&D too. And do get Spywareblaster. Please.

3. What does Spywareblaster do?

I already run Adaware and Spybot. What does Spywareblaster do that these others don't? Thanks.

7. It blocks things ...

It prevents certain Active-X controls from running, hijack mechanisms from being installed, certain cookies from being set, etc.

11. Running all three and more is fine.
In fact, I recommed running all those together, plus AVG Anti-Spyware, to boot. The fact is that each anti-spyware tool has its own strengths and weaknesses. By running several, to cover most, if not all, of the universe of threats out there.

Of course, all this becomes quite moot if you are running Linux. ;-)

12. It's great.
LEave it on and use it. AVG Anty-Spyware rocks. Hard.

2. No

The newer version uninstalls the older version for you. I just did this myself a couple weeks ago.

5. thanks, I couldn't tell - just did Ccleaner and it clearly stated there was no need to uninstall
but I couldn't find that info (easily) for adaware. I know last time I did spybot I had to remove the old one first so...

6. Hm, I never uninstalled the old version for Spybot either

It's version Spybot 1.6.0 now.

Whenever I search for updates for either Spybot or Adaware, I download what they suggest. By the time I realize it's a newer version, my computer has already been updated.

I've been lucky, never had any problems with either product. Occasionally, they find something lurking, and its fixed by Spybot or Adaware.

BTW, before running either, I always delete the temp files, delete cookies, and clear history.

8. not sure if I should start a new post or not...help please?
I seem to be having some kind of trouble downloading this (maybe that is why I subconsciously avoided trying for so long).

I tried a couple of times. The first time it seemed to finish way too fast for my slow dial-up and then I couldn't open it. Second time it said it failed. Third time same as first. Forth time I said the heck with it and uninstalled the old version thinking that might be the problem. Nope. It is supposed to be a 18+ MB file but it only gets about 6% of the way through then claims to be finished. Same error on opening as the first try.

When I try to open I get an error message that says it is not a valid win32 application, but I know it didn't load the whole thing.

What else do you need to know? (XP, Firefox, trying to download fron CNet) Could it be the firewall? If so what do I need to do?

9. oh, I kinda remember that I had to disable the firewall

Something about Norton prevented Adaware from accessing the Internet. Once I disabled Norton for 15 minutes, the download worked fine.

13. AAARRRGGGHHHHH
6th try - yes, I said SIXTH! - it finally started loading. This was with comodo back to "custom", btw. It got almost to the end - 87% there, baby. Then with no other indication of problems, no disconnect, no sign that I could see, it claimed to be finished. Wouldn't open, properties said it was only 16 somthing MB's so I know it didn't finish. Two freaking hours and it couldn't go another 20 minutes? arrggghhhhhhhhh I hate this connection!

Oh, sorry just needed to vent. Although I was just trying to inform anybody following this that it must be my 60 year old can-and-string phone lines. sigh
