This is one of the best deals Microsoft has ever offered the home user. It used to cost $100 for ONE XP upgrade or Vista Basic upgrade, and you had to have the 64bit Vista upgrade mailed to you (I did).

Linux users, start your own thread.

1. wtf? Are you on a Microsoft commission or something?
And I don't need to remind you that using these boards for advertising is against DU rules.

2. It's NOT advertising, this is important for the people who WANT to know about NEW software
If Skinner thinks I'm advertising he'll let me know. But it's OK for you folks to sing the praises of Apple and Linux???

3. Before your mouth flaps any longer
you'd better post a direct link to any post where I have shilled for paid software.

Oh, you can't.....

And now you had better tell me exactly who 'you folks' are. No need for names and addresses, screen names will be adequate. I'm waiting for you to back up your empty tripe, accusations and broad brush generalisations. If you can't, please go and become a Microsoft apologist elsewhere.

4. Here's a flap, you made my ignore list.
You have a gripe, alert the mods and ask Skinner to call me he has my phone number. Just because I prefer MS software and TRY to help those less technically capable on DU doesn't mean I shill anything.

Goodbye, flap your own lips.

6. We didn't bother with upgrades (because we really couldn't), but we bought two OEM copies at newegg.
We both have iMacs with Boot Camp. Mine was newer so it ran Vista Pro 32-bit and my wife's from last year ran XP Pro 32-bit. Since XP and Vista 32 both can't fully utilize 4GB of memory, we decided to bite the shoe leather and try becoming early adopters of Win 7. We have heard a number of good things about it here on DU and elsewhere, so we figured "what the hell"?

I will say that you have to do your research to get the proper 64-bit Boot Camp drivers up and running, but once you do that properly this OS is an absolute dream for anyone forced to use Windows. We both are since EverQuest 2 cannot run properly in Mac OS or Linux. You can get it to come up but as soon as you move about or try to enter a different zone you will crash immediately.

After I had my 64-bit drivers all working, I proceeded to download and install EQ 2 fresh, while simultaneously listening to Winamp and downloading and installing other essentials like AVG antivirus, Open Office, Auslogics Disk Defrag and C-Cleaner. I never hung or crashed once. My wife's older iMac still only has 3GB of ram, and also for some reason one or more drivers didn't take the first attempt, so we spent a few hours in Hell trying to figure out why EVERY application kept crashing and going "Not Responding" even when 75% of memory was free and the processor cores were barely even awake. Once I finally fixed that one issue, which was probably my own oversight since those 64-bit driver installs aren't crystal clear, hers now runs wonderfully also. I accidentally forgot to buy two 2GB ram sticks, so hers still only has 3GB of ram, but we'll expand it to the full 4GB it's capable of soon. And, as soon as the 8GB kits for the 2009 iMacs come down below $200 I'm gonna double my own memory.

In short, this really is a decent OS which blows away Vista AND XP without being a total resource hog. It was money well spent by a couple of avid MMO players who needed more memory available for our favorite game.

People who want to bitch about this thread can go ahead and be haters. I'm nowhere near a MS fanboy, but I had to stop by and say that for once I'm happy with one of their products. This hasn't been so true since I used to run Windows 2000 a number of years ago.

7. This is the deal that I took.
I'm going to be upgrading my kids' computers and one of mine with Windows 7. I think it's a great deal considering how much the upgrades are individually. Thanks for posting.
