Are these to programs in conflict?
I have the new MSE installed and still have Windows Defender. Should I un-install Defender?

I've changes things around, got rid of AVG and Spybot.
I run XP SP3
MSE and Malwarebytes.

Thanks

1. Defender is not in conflict but its a PAIN in the ass to uninstall if the
.msi package is missing or moved. Download a fresh copy to your desktop and when it asks for the install location, point it towards that file.

It NEVER found any of the malware/spyware others found (I wondered about MS participating in click-through programs).

3. Hi WS, do you think I should un-install Defender?
This infernal machine is slow again. I know I have to get rid of some of the programs and check out what loads at start. I'd post the "start" stuff for you to see but I don't know how.

Since this machine came to me second hand, it has lots of programs I can't ID. One of these days I'll google them and find out. I wish there was a way to print them so I can cross them out one at a time. Same with start items.

Thanks

5. You don't need multiple
AV/MW programs. Yep, use Revo to uninstall Defender. I just got MSE and it looks pretty good. It covers both utilities.

There is a way to make a screen shot of the 'startup' list in Ccleaner, and the list of installs in Revo, but I don't know screen shots. I'll see if I can find something, unless someone else pipes in or you find something. It may be later.. shopping day.

See how it does after you remove Defender. I'll be happy to google some stuff for you.

6. Revo is certainly interesting. I love the screen that shows you
all your programs. Gave me an idea of what to search for. With a little luck I'll understand. My problem is I'm afraid I'll remove something I shouldn't.

I did remove Windows Defender last night and this infernal machine runs runs faster this AM

Want to take a stab at the list of programs shown on the Revo screen? Just the A's.

I'm sure I don't need most of these. Remember, I am a basic user. No fancy stiff.
I thing there are 6 Arcsoft programs but that is for another time.

Here goes:
Adobe Air
Adobe Flash
Adobe Reader 9.0
AnalogX Capture

9. 283 power pack heads
maybe a 348 big block even. My first real job way back when, the guy who I worked for drove that same vehicle and I rode many a mile in the back seat getting the back of my neck burned from the sun coming in that huge window. Back then my neck might have been a tad on the red side anyway if you know what I mean.

12. After I installed MSE ..
I realized Defender is part of the suite. So, uninstalling the stand alone was the right thing.

13. Don't use multiple AV.
MSE & Malwarebytes is fine.

If you end up not liking MSE uninstall it and try Avast.
i.e. Avast + Malwarebytes.

No need for duplicate apps taking up resources. They don't provide more defense by having more.
