Firefox hangs when browser closed. It won't let go. I can't get
task manager to end it either, I mean, it ends, but when I go to reopen it, it says it's running.
It usually does this after I do the New York Times Crossword, which I only do Wed. thru' Sunday, as then they are less lame.
Any ideas?

1. I've found that making
a new profile fixes any issues I've had with Firefox.

Be sure to download your bookmarks first.

Computers sometimes just work as we intended and other times they dont.

You are posting here, asking for help, but these posts do not make a lot of sense, in the regard that they inform or enlighten those willing to help about the true nature of your problem.

You have received a lot of answers, most of which I truly believe you do not understand one word of. What is going to happen is you will fuck around, trying all the 'fixes' suggested to you until your computer wont boot and you need to take it to someone who will fix it for you.

The very best thing you could do right now is accept what you dont know. I stick by my recommendation in another thread to reload windows. Man, you are so fucked that at this stage it's about the only option open to you.

Of course, in 6 months you will be in exactly the same situation because you will carry on your old habits. Ce la vie.

By all means try all the fixes, patches etc that are being recommended by others. More angst for the mill.

3. Toad. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I do understand some
of the answers.
The firefox hangup occurred even before the current virus. It is a common problem and one that others besides myself have.
And one that I have not seen here or elsewhere resolved.
When computers don't work as we intended then it doesn't make sense, coming from the computer. Because the idea with computers is that they are to work as we intend. If they don't then we are faced with the thing that doesn't make sense, and we can only try to find an answer, a solution.

I went to the Firefox Support Forum and found others were having the same problem. The fix that worked for me was making a new profile for Firefox.

If you don't know how to make a new profile, I found a step by step instruction complete with screen shots that I'll be glad to share with you.
