Here's a modest request. Paging Fumesucker, Greenlanern
And all those who may have or have not found a solution through the computer group.

A big part of giving computer advice is the feedback. Put yourselves in the shoes of the geeks why try to get you up and running again. Would you like to know if your solution worked?

I'm sure you would. So please do us the courtesy of a quick post that says 'problem solved' or 'you fucking know-nothings' or...just anything.

The larger benefit to humanity is having geeks on hand who will not only happily impart their knowledge, but keep it current and relevant.

There is no ego involved. Just common courtesy. Let us know if the solution worked or not.

2. Those, who are just strolling by, would also sometimes like to know whether the advice worked
To take a hypothetical example, if my computer bursts into flames and all the frogs and mice start jumping out, I'm naturally going to do a websearch to see if I can solve the problem. When I do my websearch, I'll get a bunch of hits that say things like "Go to Emergency >> Hardware and right-click Fiery Vermin. Under the Happy Days Are Here Again tab, select Add Gasoline. Then restart your computer." If the response is crickets, I can't tell whether the solution worked or not

3. See, I would have gone to
Start/Run/Sprinklersys.exe. That's worked for me in the past.

5. A tangential topic about helping folks
Is it my imagination, or are geeks more apt to give their services away for free? Maybe it's just me, but I rarely see a graphic artist helping people for free. I help people all the time and have even created a couple websites for people. Yet I'm totally stuck on one site because I need graphic design help, and I'm pretty sure there aren't any that work for free the way I have. I dunno, maybe others have had different experiences.

9. Some are. It just depends on how much free time people have
Some people who know computer stuff may not really need to look stuff up or spend a whole lotta time on solving a problem. Others will spend the time because they either had the problem in the past or can anticipate having it in the future. With graphics, you can have the same dynamic where someone will do it because they want to spend the time learning how to do it. But if it's just an investment in time when there's nothing to be learned, if someone doesn't have the time, I can see not volunteering for it. Know what I mean?

7. Actually it didn't work..
Didn't mean to keep anyone hanging, I've been drifting away from DU lately, it's getting hard to take all the conflict in the political forums I usually post on and that tends to keep me from looking at a lot of stuff I normally would.

8. I always do try to give feedback on it. Like you say, we need to
know what the solution is.

10. It's funny
I was just stopping in to say that my problems seemed to have stopped. Unfortunately I can't pinpoint exactly what did it - I was trying everything I could, lol.

I suspect that the suggestion from here about removing flash and then reinstalling it was part of it. I can click on a video without crashing! I can even right-click on the desktop without crashing!

I do have a few more cleaning type programs that I've downloaded, which so far seem to be helping as well - CCleaner and some Iobit stuff. Perhaps that's made a difference.

But most important of all, you have been such a huge help in understanding what might be happening. And ever so patient with me! I do really appreciate not just your smarts, but your ability to explain things in terms the less-than-smart-about-this can understand!
