DVD decoder?
:hi:

I need some help. I have an old IBM ThinkPad and I had it reformatted and had Windows 2000 reinstalled on it. I realized after I got it back (admittedly some time later ...) that the DVD player no longer works on it and it says I need a "DVD decoder" for it.

Does anyone know where I might find one of these for free? I check download.com and couldn't find anything for this particular system (a Celeron processor 555 mhz with 64 RAM). It is a slow little sucker but it sure does work good still.

Thanks for any help/advice.

1. K-Lite ...

Note the instructions while installing. This package has more options than you might want, some of which conflict with each other and some of which may not be legal in your country. The default selections are fine but do not include a dvd decoder, IIRC. I think I remember you have to manually select it.

This will also install media player classic, an excellent alternative to Windoze media player.

3. Let me know if it works ...

I've suggested this twice in the last week or so, and I realized I haven't actually used it in over 6 months. The people who make mplayer had to change some things about their distribution due to screwed up legalities, and I don't know if this affected K-Lite as well.

4. I will let you know
I downloaded via dial-up last night (took ~2+ hrs.). It was late and I went to bed. I'll give it a try again later tonight when the phone line is free. :D

Thanks again!!
