Pics of my Foster pup
Edited on Thu Nov-10-05 08:32 AM by ehrnst
Well, I couldn't say no. Our rescue coordinator called Sunday night and said that they needed a foster home immediately for a dog that didn't work out with a family after a week trial run. So I said yes.

Becca is about 8 mos old, and we think that she's a spaniel mix (any ideas on this?). She's incredibly affectionate - and does have some separation anxiety issues, although not severe. She got stressed after bonding with her trial family, who decided that a puppy was just too much with two small children. And it's been an adjustment for us, as well - but she's so worth the trouble

Poor thing broke her tail wagging it so hard in a crate - and it would not heal, so the rescue to have it removed. We have an adoption event this weekend, so hopefully, she can find a forever home.

Isn't she gorgeous?

The photos don't really show how uniquely built she is - like an oversized long-haired dachsund with elongated legs. Her fur feels as silky and soft as it looks.

1. She is beautiful!
Poor little girl, tail less :-(.

Her ears seem sort of Lab like. She has a beautiful coat.I'm sure someone would take her immediately. I know I would :-).

2. Adorable!
She's very cute. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she finds a home soon. We adopted a rescue who has "issues" as well, but we love her to pieces despite (or maybe because of?) her little idiosyncrasies. Good for you for fostering her. :applause:

I'm guessing there's some lab mixed in there somewhere?

4. A friend remarked that she looks and acts like a flat coated retriever
Which makes sense.

32. You did it!
Piece of cake, right? Thank you for sharing them. They're adorable.

They look so much alike. Are they litter mates? Double the fun, the love and the hijinx. The one on the left looks a bit shy, or is it just the luck of the camera to catch her that way? Those eyes would melt ice. The look on the face of the one on the right made me chuckle. I could just see the cartoon balloon reading, "I didn't do it. You can't prove it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it."

--

ehrnst - Bless you for fostering and providing those without a home a sense of home. Living in a cage/kennel has got to be so confusing and stressful on them. I'm thinking it takes a very special person to be able to do what you do. And imagine after they're in your home and heart for awhile, it would be hard to let go.

I hope she'll eventually find her 'own' family. In the meantime, glad you are there to take care of her.

33. now help me make the pictures smaller, soup!
:D

Got both of the kids at our local shelter 2 years apart-pretty amazing how they do resemble each other and you pretty much nailed both of them as far as their personalities. Ridley (she's 3) is on the left-she doesn't mind having her picture taken, it's just that for this picture, it took me 10 minutes to get them to stay, so she's giving me her version of the stink eye! Maverick (he's 1) is on the right and he is rotten. He loves to take my stuff out the doggie door and into the back yard. For Thanksgiving they get to spend time with their cousin Lily-will post pics later

11. She is absolutely stunning!
And looks like a real sweet, affectionate pup. She just looks like a ball of love and when she finds a forever home, she seems like she'll be a VERY faithful and loyal girl.

That breaks my heart that her adoptive home didn't work out..:grr: didn't these people *think* before adopting a puppy with two small children?

My best wishes and prayers are that she will quickly find a loving, perfect, forever and ever home :)

12. And she has great taste in toys -- that's 'lambskin' guy with the squeaker
in his tummy under her paw isn't it? Definitely a favorite at our house. (Which reminds me - we could use another. I haven't seen ours in a few weeks. Perhaps I should clean under the bed and sofa? Nah. Just go buy another -- :-) )

15. That "lambskin" toy is made of kevlar, I think.
It's lasted a year and a half, despite our other furbaby Lucy's attempts to disembowel it. We can't find them anywhere - and we'd love to get more.

16. UPDATE: She has an adopter!
There is a couple that has a lab and they are experienced with separation anxiety issues! Becca and the lab got along great.

The rescue will do a vet and home check today, and pending approval, she'll be in her forever home this evening.

We'll miss her....

17. Here's my foster doggie Dewey.
Edited on Mon Nov-14-05 01:40 PM by RebelOne
I have had him since the first of June. He goes to pet adoption every Saturday at PetsMart, but so far has not been adopted. He is 11 years old and it seems that no one want a senior dog.

I was thinking of showing him to my mom - up in wa state. She's been talking about getting a boston terrier but I would rather try to get her to save a dog.

If I didn't have 2 furbabies and a human baby already, I'd adopt another one just like him - senior or young!

28. UPDATE 2: The adoption didn't work out! She's back with us.
:-(

The couple had another dog, a large Lab that would not accept Becca at all and kept attacking her. Becca just freaked and peed and chewed on everything.

They were fine together at the adoption event, and they had them meet away from the house before bringing Becca in, but the Lab just wouldn't stop being aggressive...they were so sad and apologetic. They loved her.

She's been fine since she's been back with us and our two dogs. No chewing or peeing.

Lesson learned - ask potential adopters with dogs if they have had other dogs stay with them for extended periods of time.

There were a few others interested in her, so we'll try again.

29. I'm glad you took her back
so she didn't have to adjust to another new home. My foster was returned after a week too. He fixated on their cat. They even tried putting the cat outside and Marley stood at their door crying for the cat. He saw it in the window and jumped into the kitchen sink, destroying their blinds to try to get to the cat. He passed a "cat test" at the shelter - toatlly ignored 3 cats. I would keep him forever but I have 4 of my own and I really want to foster more dogs in the future. Good luck with yours.

31. Oh, no -- it sounds like they did the right things by
bringing their lab with them to the adoption event and then introducing them away from the house before bringing Becca in -- you can't always know until you actually try. This is one of the reasons why fostering is such a Godsend - especially when trying to create a family with two (nearly) adult dogs. The couple may be able to adopt a male that will do just fine.

Let us know how the next try goes - we are rooting for her!

:hi:
