Flea comb question:
My vet does some deal with a flea comb where he runs it through the dog's fur then I THINK he wraps it in a damp paper towel (the comb, not the dog). Can anyone refresh my memory on what he's doing?
I've got a new dog here who's scratching the same spot a lot and I'd like to see what's going on.

1. Have often used a flea comb on our whippets...
Run it through their fur and then dip it in a soapy water solution to
kill any fleas that it has in it. Maybe your vet is looking for any evidence of fleas like
feces...sure she/he would tell you. Flea combs are great to use on short haired dogs, IMO...

2. I also use soapy water, along with a paper towel
I usually use very hot add a bit of liquid dish soap, then I dip the comb in the water before combing, after running it through their fur, I quickly dip the comb back in the water. I use the paper towel after I dip in soapy water to get rid of some of the soap.

Sometimes there might be as many as six or eight fleas on the comb. Sometimes the fleas get stuck in the top portion so you have to use your fingers to push them out. I do this in the water solution. Sometimes the fleas are trying to crawl and jump off the comb, however, most of the time I'm lucky in getting them in the water.

Then I pour the water and fleas down the toilet.
