Petromalt
:hi: everyone.

I was tipped off on the fact the Petromalt has some of its ingredients from China by a lady that has 7 cats. She went on to tell me that the local vet here told her that most of the cats (especially elderly) he's seeing have been dying of kidney disease. :(

It seems that even though it says Made in the USA on it, one of the main ingredients, "glycerin is “suspected” of being contaminated; with exactly what who knows.

Glycerin has tested positive for diethylene glycol…antifreeze."

http://www.petconnection.com/blog/2007/05/24/its-the-melamine-stupid-and-the-tetrodotoxin-and-the-diethylene-glycol/

I give one of my cats Petromalt now and then. Does anyone know of any good SAFE options!

I am absolutely shocked to say the least. I tried calling the phone # on the tube of Petromalt that I have and received no reply to the message I left.

:scared:

1. I got a call back from the 800 #
they said that they no longer own this product and it was sold to Sergeant’s - the maker and importer of a variety of cheap health care products for pets and toys as well.

I won't bother to call them. I know the answer. MADE IN CHINA.

:argh:

3. I found another type
Drs. Foster and Smith - I ordered two tubes of it of each flavor. I found an online coupon for $5.00 so it cut the cost down a bit.

I've been using it on my old kitty. She was real sick a couple of weeks ago vomiting and I had this tube of Petromalt. I hope it doesn't harm the cats!

I called up the Drs. Foster and Smith place and talked to them about the ingredients and where they were from and they said it was all from the USA and she read me the ingredients. There was no protein content as Petromalt has.

I wonder if that .5% in Petromalt is indeed melanine? The fomer owner of this product knew something was amiss but did not elaborate. No wonder they dumped it.

4. Thanks very much for this important heads-up!
These Chinese companies have learned how to beat the tests. Plastic shows up as protein and our sweet, innocent animals suffer and die because of this unconscionable money game.

6. Osiyo!
Tohitsu, CountAll Votes? I agree that we need to stay on top of this. It will effect some worse than others...processed food of any kind should be OUT for safety's sake. I noticed that the list of contaminated people food grows longer every day. We have to watch out for those who can't watch out for themselves. Animals and children especially! Wado! :hi:
