Esme crossed the Bridge yesterday.
It was time.
She'd been on a slow decline, but herself. Sunday she went outside and got 'stuck' in the neighbor's yard- she was too weak to get over the fence and I had to rescue her and bring her back inside.
I think I knew then.
She was having trouble getting up on the chair into my lap (I've been absolutely enervated with a mean cold for about 4 days) where we'd been comforting each other. By Monday she was having trouble walking and she seemed disoriented.

I promised her I wouldn't make her drag it out if she got 'stuck'. We went to the vet in the afternoon and my Sainted Vet allowed me to stay with her right through the end.

It's a bit of a relief, because one way or another, this has been staring me in the face for three months (ever since her kidneys went so bad so quickly).
Now it's over with...but oh, I'm going to miss my Ezzle-may...

3. .

Everyday I think fondly of the dear boy I lost in February. He too was having trouble walking and seemed disoriented. He was in distress and I could not comfort him. I believe he was telling me it was his time to go. And I knew it to be so. He went quickly and peacefully as I held him in my arms. His vet cried with me. To this day I feel that ending his suffering and distress was the last thing I could do for the dear boy who did so much for me.

4. I'm sorry for your loss of Esme badgerpup
 I hope the good memories you have of times with Esme will help ease the pain of watching her decline in the past few months. Being there with her at the vet is the final gift we can give them for all their years of love and companionship....

9. So sorry to hear such sad news.
I know you loved her and vice versa. You will miss her but she won't be in pain any more. You did the right thing, of course, and nothing really helps. She would try to cheer you up, though, if she thought she made you cry. Hopefully you will quickly get to the point when you can remember her with a smile. Good girl.

10. I am so sorry to hear this, badgerpup. I know the feeling.
I just lost my kitty to kidney failure in December, and I am still missing her. But I am glad she is not suffering.

I know Esme has meant a lot to you, and you have done all that you can. Up to the last loving thing you did. I have followed your posts about the progression, and your pain. I am sorry for you.

Rest in peace, Esme.

15. Dear badgerpup, your Esme had a wonderful life with you. You
gave her good care, happiness, and LOVE. She is grateful to you for helping her to escape from her sick body. She is purring loudly now. God bless you and your family in this time of grief.

17. Awww. I am so very sorry that Esme has gone to the bridge.
I remember several posts about her.

No doubt she is with you still...and will give you some signs of her nearness.

And if I go, while you're still here ~
know that I still live on
vibrating to a different measure
behind a thin veil you cannot see through.
You will not see me,
so you must have faith.
I wait the time when we can soar together again,
both aware of each other.
Until then, live your life to the fullest.
And when you need me,
just whisper my name in your heart,
~ I will be there.

20. I'm so sorry for your loss of Esme. I know how much you must miss her.
I lost my precious Shadow similarly about a month ago. Shadow only had one eye - he was born that way and never knew the difference. About two weeks after I lost Shadow, I found a rescue kitty on Petfinder. He was turned in to the humane society with an eye injury and his eye was removed and he was then taken to foster care, where he lived until he came home with me. He is missing the same eye as Shadow! Rescue kitty was named Blinky, but I couldn't keep that name so his name is Smudge, and he's wonderful. Sometimes I think Shadow stuck around just long enough so that I'd end up with Smudge. I know, pretty silly theory. I hope you, too, will have your heart mended by a new kitty, when you are ready.

22. Thank you...
You are wonderful people...and I appreciate you so very much! :grouphug:

I think the boys (Riktor, Wimsey and D'Artagnan) would wish me to send headbumps and purrs.

They're taking it better than I was expecting them to, especially Riktor.
He's a bit more needful of attention and laptime, but otherwise he seems OK...nothing like what he went through when we lost Misha.

I think they've seen this coming too...Riktor stuck pretty close with Esme during her illness, but they had a chance to 'say goodbye', so to speak.
I'm glad they're handling it as well as they are- I was more worried about how Riktor would take it than just about anything else.
