Pets with asthma?
Daddy has asthma. He has been having some pretty bad attacks lately. He freaks if we try to give him the inhaler. He refuses to let me touch him -- ever -- when I'm giving him his transdermal meds regularly. He draws blood when we give him pills. The only other thing that works is to get him a depo shot (steroids) once every few weeks. (He hates going to the vet, too, of course.)

He can't get one for the next two and a half weeks, though, because he's scheduled for his 3rd FELV vaccine shot on Saturday, and the vet said he can't get the depo at the same time and not until two weeks afterwards. And since he goes out he must finish the FELV cycle.

Any suggestions for making the transdermal meds (or even the inhaler) easier on him?

Tell me about your pets with asthma.

1. Would an ionic air purifier help?
I know that a lot of pets develop asthma when they've lived with smokers or have been in areas with a lot of air pollution.

You might also think about getting a body wrap to use on him when you give him his meds.He sure is a handsome boy!

2. Hmm. It might.
We don't smoke, and we live outside the beltway so the pollution's not too bad, but we're not the best housekeepers. It could exacerbated by dust.

We have a "cat bag" but he fights so much we can't get him into it.

I can restrain him to give him his daily meds. It's a fight but I can do it. It's when he is having an attack that he needs the inhaler, and he is just terrified of anything that disrupts his desperate attempt to breathe.
