1. It could be an angel.

Years ago, my husband went to bed early and I stayed up and fell asleep watching TV in the living room. I got awakened in the middle of the night by a woman knocking on my door. She told me our bedroom was on fire. She helped me get my husband out of the bedroom and outside into the yard. He was unconscious by then I guess overcome with smoke inhalation and lack of oxygen. The fire department put out what was a mattress fire and gave my husband some oxygen to revive him. We don't know how it got started because neither of us had smoked in the bedroom. We had a rule against it. The firemen suggested that it could have been smoldering for hours unnoticed. Mattresses are like that on occasion. I still don't know what started it though unless the sun through glass could have done it earlier in the day. It had been unusually hot that day.

In the excitement the woman disappeared. After it was all over I tried to find her the next day to thank her, but no one knew a neighbor who fit the description that I gave them. To this day, I don't know who the good samaritan was, but one of my neighbors suggested she could have been an angel in human form. Also, my husband said that the woman I described fit his dead grandmother's description. The only difference was that the woman I spoke to spoke English with an American accent and his grandmother would have had an Irish accent.

I would not at all be surprised if it were an angel. I am so happy there was a good outcome to this.

I once had a couch get set on fire with a lightbulb getting too close to the arm. We put it out fast enough, however.

Anyway, fascinating story.

Celebration, thanks for posting this! I would have missed it without your notice and I find it quite intriguing.

Just listening to calls on C2C, I know there were many minds out there working away, with many ideas about how to fix this. So many people called in with ideas.

3. I wondered if it was any of those callers

I bet there are lots of "outside the box" plumbers who listen to that program. Pretty intelligent of the guy to contact the ex oil engineer directly, I thought. On the other hand, sounds something like how an angel would operate!
