DU astrologers, please don't laugh: is there any significance to...
Venus and Mars both being located in the same house in someone's chart? I've Googled and searched and maybe my brain is just failing me today, but I've got nothing. Does anyone know if this indicates anything...unusual?

1. House placements
matter. This would be both Venus and Mars affecting the issues of the house they are in. It's hard to find a description of Venus and Mars or any combination in a particular house, but the separate parts are easy to find. (Mars in X house, Venus in X house, Venus conjunct Mars)

But a house can be pretty large. Are they also conjunct?

It wouldn't be that unusual for them to be conjunct or in the same house but of course the combination can have some unusual way of being played out. When people think Venus/Mars they often think relationships or sexual issues, though that isn't the whole of it.
To that, as a generalization at least, I've seen people with very tight conjunctions of Venus and Mars often go to extremes, being very promiscuous or very disdainful of or avoiding of sex...though with age this blending of energy can balance out nicely.

But you see that in people who don't have that combination...other aspects can be indicators of it too. And people can have the aspect and not have in play out that way.
But just having them in the same house and not conjunct I wouldn't even guess at that generalization.

So, this isn't much help. Perhaps you could look up the components and then fit them together yourself. But the other aspects Mars and Venus make and the houses they rule and the ruler of the house they are in and the condition of all those planets would be part of the story in their expression too.

2. Yeah, I thought I might have been too vague.
Still, good insights. For the official record, they are considered to be in a tight conjunct (in the sixth house, in Aries).

3. it's *very* positive for intimate relationships
it would be colored by house and sign, naturally. in Vedic astrology all planets in the same sign/house are considered conjunct - even with an orb considered out of conjunct in western astrology. my last boyfriend had mar/venus conjunct in the 7th and he was the best lover i ever had. i fact i think i have to go off and think about that now ;-)

4. conjunctions
I've noticed from looking at various people's charts, that sometimes a conjunction can be harmonious- both planets are together in the same sign, and possibly a close degree as well. I would look at that as something positive. However, the sign would have an effect, no doubt. since you mentioned that both are in aries, that would possibly be better, ie, a more harmonious sign, for mars than venus. Although I am not putting down venus in aries, that would give alot to venus- fire, assertiveness, spontaneity... but I think mars is probably exalted in aries, as is the sun. I'm curious whether you feel male-identified, or swallowed up sometimes by male energy, or whether there is any sort of meaning, practically, for the aries energy there. Is there a work or health connection of some sort. It is an interesting spot for a conjunction.

5. Don't know about astrology, but in mythology Venus

and Mars were an item, kind of like Brad and Angelina today. The bards called it as Aphrodite (Venus) having a perverse attraction for Ares (Mars). The girl couldn't help it.

6. Also, what is the phasal relationship between Mars/Venus?
Many astrologers fail to take into account what the phasal relationship is between any two planets when in conjunction. There's a very big difference in a waxing conjunction and a waning conjunction. In order to grasp what I'm talking about. When looking at any phasal relationship between two planets, it is measured by looking at the faster moving planet in relation to the slower moving planet. In this case, Venus to Mars.

The reason phasal relationships are important is because of symbological themes that aspects represent. A "new phase" conjunction(Venus ahead of Mars)is much different that a "balsamic phase" conjunction(Venus behind Mars). Mars and Venus indeed deal with the nature of relationships, to ourselves(Mars/Aries, Venus/Taurus)and others(Venus/Libra). If these planets are in a balsamic conjunction, this relates to a summing up or bringing to fruition, relationships to souls we have unfinished business with in this life. Think of it as the Pisces/12th house phase of Venus' journey around the chart from its last conjunction with Mars. If the relationship between Mars/Venus is in a new phase conjunction, this refers to the need within the soul for a new quality of exchange within the nature of relationships. Perhaps new soul contact, or the need for a new and different way of participation within pre-existing and current relationships in the present life.

This all has to be compared with the overall theme of the entire chart. I also have Mars/Venus in the same sign and house. In my case, Mars and Venus are in Aquarius and the 5th house. However, the phasal relationship between them is new phase. They are not considered conjunct since they are 13 degrees apart. The overall theme of my chart is one of summing-up and bringing to fruition, the repaying of karmic debt etc. I know this because of the recurring theme of 29 degrees represented within the chart. Every house is ruled by 29 degrees. Key planets are placed at the 29 degree placement. So, how would this apply in the above? The need to relate to every soul I encounter in a new way. The "not repeating" old karmic patterns layed out over many lifetimes. The need to become aware of karmic patterns within the individual life. To relate to self in a new way. To honor karmic debts that have to be brought into balance.

I would also suggest that you consider another aspect of Arian energy that is overlooked. That is the nature of Anger. Since you have these energies in Aries and the 6th house, there is a need to do a self-examination(6th house)and healing(6th house and 12th house polarity)of anger issues in relation to the self and others. Also, to trust your instinctual knowledge and the need for the personal freedom you feel you deserve(Aries)within the context of personal relationships. Aries, by nature, is the upsurging of new energy. If allowed freedom and encouragement, the upsurging is one of joy and enthusiastic expression. If repressed or stunted, forceful, angry and aggressive. The two sides of Aries.

7. Thank you so much. That was all very insightful.

What you wrote about anger, the sixth house and the twelfth house really resonated with me.

Also, for the official record, Venus is three (well, more like 2.5) degrees behind Mars in my chart.
