Many of you might be aware of me currently flexing -- or finding -- my astrological muscles by doing write-ups on the "top three" candidates. So, in order to make it perhaps easier to follow, I've decided to start breaking it down to one or two aspects and focusing on how we might be seeing that astrology in the chart manifesting in a real-time campaign.
With Obama, his natal chart has Jupiter both in opposition to Mercury and trine the Moon which, to me, is found in his Jupiterian (is that even a word?) messages of Hope and Change, of Faith and Working Together. Very Jupiter, very expansive, optimistic, very broad (no nit-picky details, please) and, with the Moon involved by trine, incredibly easy (trine) for him to emotionally connect to and project (both Jupiter and Moon traits) to his audiences with.
But where does the Mercury come in? Mercury is the planet of communication, yes, but he's also the planet of details, of plans, of the How, specifically, something will be done. If Jupiter is the Dreamer, then Mercury would be the policy wonk happily buried in spreadsheets and mountains of files, just itching to regale his audiences with every single percentage and number and hypothesis he's learned. With Obama strongly exercising his Jupiter and Moon with his messages of Hope (and, with that trine, who can blame him? it's second nature and very easy to do!), the opposition with that Mercury -- ignored for the most part -- grows more and more tense.
Planets in opposition, for me, feel like a teeter-totter. The trick is to not have one planet up in the air all the time while the other planet sits on the ground. You have to find balance. And lately I think poor Mercury in Obama's chart has been stuck on the ground waiting for his turn in the sun while his Jupiter's (aided by that "if it feels good let's do it" Moon) been hogging the view from on high! Eventually, the planet that's been struggling for true expression -- and, although Mercury aids Jupiter in communicating his Hope and Change, Faith and Working Together message, that's not his true detail-oriented expression -- will eventually have a temper-tantrum and get his due.
And his time is coming from an astrological stand point.
The SP Moon -- or Secondary Progressed Moon -- doesn't carry qualities of it's own as much as it's a big, bright spotlight illuminating whatever planet it meets. And, since late December, it's been partying it up in a "hey, let's get together and hang out like good buds" conjunction with Jupiter, Jupiter, Jupiter (and his Natal Moon, by trine)! It's been a buoyant message of Jupiter optimism twenty-four/seven to adoring crowds which, in very Jupiter fashion, have been HUGE! And the more they responded, the more his Jupiter and Moon went "YEAH! WOO-HOO!" ignoring the Mercury in the back going "but ... but ... but ..."
Everything associated with Jupiter tends to get big, big, BIG. But it's often like a balloon in that, once Jupiter isn't in play, it quickly and quite disconcertingly deflates before one's very eyes. And then what is one left with?
In Obama's case, his Mercury. Ah, Mercury. With the SP Moon moving into an opposition with Mercury -- not conjunct like he was with Jupiter or trine like he was with the Moon -- from mid-January to mid-February, the Devil will be in the Mercury-like details for Obama.
No longer will the message of Hope and Optimism have the HUGE (or Jupiter-like) power it had earlier in the month. The people, the Press, the other candidates, maybe even his own Senior Staff will be insisting -- the nature of an opposition where someone or something is forcing one to do something one might not ordinarily do -- Obama move out his natural Jupiter comfort zone and move into the messy library of Mercury details. A place he may not feel all that comfortable in.
How will he do? His chart indicates times of growing tension and frustration through February and into March and April, but that can be the nature of a long campaign and not him. If it IS him, it might be because Jupiter gets bored with the blah, blah, blah of all this REALITY and sneaks into Mercury's details, quite innocently fudging numbers or facts to make something look better than it is. Very Jupiter thing to do, with all his boundless optimism.
But Mercury will hopefully slap his hand away and insist on "just the facts, please", leaving Jupiter on the ground for a minute while Mercury has HIS time in the Sun.
