Karen Kingston and space clearing
Hello everyone,

Has anyone ever performed the space clearing ceremony, as described in Karen Kingston's book, "Creating Sacred Space with Feng Shui"? (http://www.spaceclearing.com/html/books/books/creating-sacred-space-with-feng-shui.html). I also have her book "Clearing Clutter with Feng Shui", which I've found very helpful over the years.

I have been considering doing space clearing, but it requires the purchase of, among other things, an expensive, specific type of Balinese bell (which of course is only available through purchasing from her website). Of course, I am a tad skeptical, but I was wondering if anyone else had any experience with performing this ceremony, and how it worked out for you. I am also curious to find out about any other cleansing ceremonies.

Thanks! :)

1. I haven't done that particular clearing, but I did a clearing in my old house.
It was over 60 years old and I swear I felt the energy of every person that ever lived there before me. It was very heavy.

I did a house blessing (I found directions on a thread here) and it was successful.

I'm a teacher and I just moved into a different classroom. The previous teacher had some awful energy, and I did some clearing/blessing last week. Everyone that has poked their head in has remarked on the transformation. Of course I painted, but I like to think it was the good energy ;)

2. Intention is the key...
there are many different ways to cleanse the energy of a room or space. You can do it by smudging with sage, Reiki, dowsing, prayer to name a few. People that say you have to do it with something expensive that only they are selling get my inner bell clanging!

Good luck!

6. Yeah, the having to buy a bell part was bugging me
My husband, who is not really a believer in this kind of thing, says the same thing - it's the intention that matters.

3. Why does a Chinese Feng Shui clearing require a Balinese bell???????
Besides the usual irritation anyone who wants me to not only buy one thing but then buy other stuff to make the first thing work the logic of the above just makes my brain twitch.

If I was you I would google for some free or at least low cost Feng Shui ways of improving your home. I don't know anything of it so I can't share any techniques for that.

When I clear my house I use incense (even the cheap $1 stuff works) or a smudge stick made of sage and other herbs. I go from room to room swirling them around holding a plate underneath to catch any ash and focusing on any areas that feel especially congested or dark. It is especially nice to play some good uplifting music during this. I myself favor new age for this. Since I have been attuned to Reiki I also use that charging the entire house and drawing the symbols in the middle of each room. Also I invite any beings of light willing to help to take part.

speaking of sound being used to clear bad vibes isn't this why it is traditional to make so much noise on New Years eve to drive away the evil spirits? Maybe I could just walk around the house banging pot lids and drive the stagnant energy away!

7. Thanks for your post!
The reason for the Balinese bell is that this space clearing ceremony was something she developed herself. She has a deep love of Bali, and spends half her year there, and it has influenced her work. She also says the Balinese temple bell was the best bell she has found for clearing stagnant energies, and that other bells were too low quality to perform the ceremony safely (heh - just typing this out is making my B.S. meter ping!). You mentioned walking around the house banging pots - one of the components of this ceremony is clapping in the corners to disperse stagnant energy.

I like your way of clearing - sounds much less complicated! I was just looking for something simple and uplifting. :)

9. That Chinese bells aren't safe will certainly be news to the billions of Chinese
who have used Feng Shui for centuries ;)

IMO intention is the most important thing when working with energy so as long as *you* believe it can help it will. I have read of people just sweeping their house with intention and clearing it  Probably balinese bell works so well for the author because she loves Bali so if she isn't out and out fibbing to help sell her goods.

Like I said before even cheap incense works for me though I do notice more of an effect with smudge. I once visited a new age shop that had the most intense clean vibes I had ever felt and the woman who owned it said she smudged every day sometimes with a sage blend and sometimes with a resin called copal. I was temped to buy some to try until I saw it was $8 an ounce which was not in my budget. If you have any new age shops in your area that feel really wonderful you can ask them what they do.

10. About copal:
Copal is a tree resin that comes in chunks. I have found it for cheap at Hispanic herbal/magic stores. It burns well.
