Friday, I received a job offer from the VNA, and I accepted, barely able to prevent myself from jumping up and down.
Thursday I went on a ride-along and visited 4 patients with a VNA nurse, a nice young man named Jared. I didn't realize how much I missed seeing patients and talking with them! They all just took to me as well, even the dog. I just loved getting to know them. One was an older Sicilian lady, the next a mute/hearing disabled (read: deaf) man who used an interpretor, a post-op lady recovering at her daughter's home and an elderly gentleman recovering from a fall. It was so much better seeing them at their homes instead of the hospital! They were much more comfortable, way less fear and uncertainty; very gracious and happy to see us.
A funny story about the dog-- Buddy. I asked his owner if she had him since he was a puppy and she said no. She said he belonged to her daughter and her son in law, they came to visit her with the dog and Buddy refused to go home with them. He is so her guardian. I had to tell him he was doing a very good job. I had the sense that he was very concerned for her. Buddy is a yellow lab mix.
anyway, I have a job! Yayyyy!
I ended up calling the nursing home on Tuesday and declining their offer and decided to manifest the VNA job. I'm glad I did. The VNA job pays $6 more an hour and has better benefits. And they have a dress code which means we look professional. I am not all for the nurse whites of years ago, but frankly, it is hard to inspire credibility and respect wearing cartoon pajamas. I'll be wearing navy blue pants and white or navy top. I start April 6.
Happy dance! As a bonus, I was able to sell a machine I have been listing for the past two weeks! I should have purchased a lottery ticket.
